Generate Key Takeaways Timberland teamed up with actress Myha'la and luxury clothing brand Luar to create a one-of-a-kind pair of thigh-high silk Moiré Timberland boots for the 2025 Met Gala. Designed by Raul Lopez, the boots were crafted with patent leather material, and stopped mid-thigh. Made with a lace up design the shoes were emphasized by a sharp triangular toe box, which paved the way for a dramatized upper. More from Footwear News Myha'la Herrold attends the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 05, 2025 in New York City. Getty Images for The Met Museum/ A closed-back construction kept the 'Industry' star's feet in place as she walked, and while the back couldn't be seen completely, the shoes were likely completed by a slender stiletto heel measuring between 4-to-5 inches in height. Known for their comfort, the silhouette is often praised for its versatility and ease of styling as it can be worn to a variety of events. Pointed-toes are a retro style that has been around since the early 1900s. The current versions of pointed-toe, including pumps, boots and flats, are a classic model that merges elements of that retro style with current 2020s inspiration. As for her outfit, the actress showcased a grey custom sculptural from Luar, which stole the show thanks to its daring design. Per the brand, the dress contained over 2,000 grommets, giving some insight into the intricacy and detail of its construction. As for her accessories, she incorporated some jewelry through a pair of dangling earrings, which really accentuated her braided updo and natural makeup look. 'They are a New York classic, and the brand has always been a part of my style— I wanted to bring my roots to the carpet and make it LUAR.' The 2025 Met Gala was held in New York. The theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' celebrated all things African American styles and culture. This year's co-chairs included Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, along with Vogue's Editor In Chief Anna Wintour. Solange Cheers on Son Julez Smith at 'Black Hair Reimagined' Show
Getty Images Solange Knowles was sitting in the crowd to support her son Julez Smith on Friday night. The model and nephew of Beyoncé has continued his rise in the fashion world after making his runway debut last February for New York-based brand Luar. Just days before the 2025 Met Gala, Smith took on the catwalk in New York City for a special presentation, "Black Hair Reimagined: The New Era of Beauty." The Bronner Bros. hair show inspired the event put on by hairstylist Jawara Wauchope and Jrod Lacks, who created Echelon Noir Productions. Founder of the haircare brand Pattern, Tracee Ellis Ross, led attendees through an evening of elegance, fantasy, and joy, celebrating Black hair. Smith effortlessly walked the mirrored runway, which also featured dancers and special lighting to enhance the drama of the show. The model was dressed in a long, forest green coat that was covered in rings of hair. He wore a necklace and diamond earrings and walked the runway in combat boots. The fashion show featured work from hairstylists Cyndia Harvey, Malcolm Marquez, Vernon François, and Yusef Williams, who created stunning hair art for models including Smith, Paloma Elsesser, Anok Yai, and Imaan Hammam. In partnership with The Texture of Change, their mission is to give stylists access "to programs and textured hair education that will provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to service all hair types – ensuring that all consumers have access to trained professionals who can meet their individual needs." Of course, it wouldn't be a fashion show featuring Julez Smith without support from his mom, Solange. The musician was one of the featured guests at the show, arriving in a stunning see-through black gown that featured tassels draping down to her ankles. She paired the dress with black strappy heels and statement earrings, with her long, dark hair hanging down her back. One of the celebrity hairstylists who helped curate the show, Vernon Francois, shared behind-the-scenes footage of the show on his Instagram. He also shared his favorite Met Gala hair looks that he's created over the years, including for Willow Smith and Lupita Nyong'o. 'An ode to the audacity of possibility,' Francois wrote on Instagram. 'Where legacy meets imagination, and we take our rightful place at the forefront—creating, leading, redefining. This is just the beginning.' Julez Smith's closeness with his mom, Solange, is well documented — including in his Teen Vogue cover story. Aside from speaking highly of his mom, aunt Beyoncé, and cousin Blue Ivy, Smith also said his best friend is his grandma, Tina Knowles. 'She taught me how to be a young man. She taught me the rules of the house,' Smith said. 'She taught me how to be a man of the house. She taught me how to respect others and everything, and she keeps me up on my fly, too. She be sending me clothes and all types of stuff. My grandma, she's my dog, man.' Originally Appeared on Teen Vogue Want more style stories from Teen Vogue? 10 Surprising Trends From the Fall 2025 Fashion Shows
From left: Sunnei; Balenciaga; Moschino. Credit... Courtesy of the brands (2); Firstview Kate Lanphear, women's style director: We'd seen Bottega Veneta models carrying shopping bags in recent seasons, leather versions made to look like paper bags. Karl Lagerfeld did similar trompe l'oeil bags at Chanel, too. But this season, there were actual paper shopping bags or, as was the case at Balenciaga and Moschino, plastic ones on the runways. Nick Haramis, editor at large: Sunnei just opened a new store in Milan, and when you left the runway show, you exited through the shop, which was quite clever. The models also carried Sunnei-branded paper shopping bags. K.L.: At Moschino, there was a dress made out of trash bags, and another model carried them, which seemed like commentary on consumerism, whereas at Sunnei, the bags felt more like a suggestion to buy. From left: Weinsanto; Luar; Alaïa. Credit... Firstview; courtesy of the brands (2) K.L.: At Luar and Weinsanto, the models' arms were constricted by garments into contorted positions. N.H.: Almost like if you were doing the 'Thriller' dance but not moving. Angela Koh, market editor: At Luar, Raul Lopez's inspiration was growing up as a closeted gay kid, and thinking about hand gestures as an implication of homosexuality Thank you for your patience while we verify access. Iridescent Lips, Grungy Eyeliner, and More of Fall's Hottest Makeup Trends
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." I know what you're thinking: How can we discuss next fall's trends while we're still shoveling snow from the sidewalk? February marks the start of fashion month, which means that for the next few weeks, we will get to explore, analyze, and admire what the runways predict will be the fall and winter 2025 beauty trends. For makeup, several runway shows emphasized the importance of experimentation, demonstrating looks with unexpected colors, like blue and green. Interesting makeup placements also dominated the runways, inspiring us to think outside the box. Though simple makeup looks will always have their place, intensity, vibrancy, and passion reigned supreme this season, leading us away from minimalism and toward drama and fantasy. Below, take a look at the best makeup trends we spotted on the runway. Gone are the days when we would run away from blue and green eyeshadow. These colors will be inescapable this fall, and designers like Christian Cowan and Luar are leading the charge. The colors aren't as jarring as you may think; with so many ways to dip your toe into the trend, you can incorporate these colors in a way that works with your taste. If you are a novice, try using green or blue eyeliner, similar to the models at Anna Sui. However, if you prefer drama, fully saturate your eyelids with vibrant shades of blue and green from the Rimmel London Magnif'eyes Palette to get the Christian Cowan mod '60s vibe.$8.46 at Moving down the face, quirky, vibrant lips are in this season. And no, not just your typical bright red (although the models at Alice and Olivia and Coach made a compelling case for it). We're talking about shades of blue, purple, green, and even iridescent pearly tones. While some of the shades may not seem practical for everyday wear, designers like Christopher John Rogers exist to let you know that beauty is what you make it—there are no rules. Who says you can wear your makeup with a blue lip? At Christopher John Rogers, key artist Alex Levy used a mix of the MAC Cosmetics Perpetual Shock MAC Color Excess Gel Pencil Eyeliner, MAC Dazzle Shadow Extreme in color Emerald Cut, and MAC Dazzle Shadow Liquid eye shadow in color Diamond Crumblesover the lips. Then, he added the MAC Clear Lipglass as a finishing touch.$26.00 at Moody makeup looks will always be a cold-weather staple. Alluring, edgy, and sultry, something about dark, deep hues in a makeup look will always be a win in our book. Of course, one of the pillars of the moody grungy makeup aesthetic is the cat eye. At Kim Shui, the classic cat eye was the star of the show, with the tail of the black eyeliner lightly brushed out and surrounded by a soft white eyeshadow. Over at Luar, makeup artist Terry Barber was inspired by 'late '80s supermodel glam meets DIY club drag.' That translated to an ombre, cut-crease eyeshadow look comprised of chalky white, black, and grey eyeshadow and brushed-out eyeliner using the MAC Eye Kohl Pencil in Feline to get a pristine cat eye shape.$23.00 at A good blush is probably one of the easiest ways to elevate a makeup look. Whether you like a full beat or are loyal to the minimalist makeup aesthetic, the right blush—and strategic placement—will make all the difference. Marc Jacobs inspired us all to think outside the box with blush. Though you may not be placing big red dots on your face any time soon, this look was an opportunity to think about blush placement and how it can help accentuate your unique features. At Diotima, blush was vibrant, dewy, and bold, thanks to the Addiction Tokyo Blush in Raspberry Chocolate and Kiss The Night.$26.00 at The smokey eye, much like the cat eye, is here to stay. But this season, designers didn't just want you to buff out your dark shadows and call it a day—they wanted you to have a little bit more fun. At Khaite, shadows were applied higher up on the lids to allow for some negative space between the lashes and the shadow. At Tory Burch, instead of reaching for a black or deep brown shade, makeup artists opted for a light grey, almost silver hue for a subtle yet ethereal twist. Luar Fall 2025: A Life Lived Unapologetically
Growing up in New York is not for the faint of heart, something Raul Lopez knows deeply. Coming of age during the AIDS crisis and realizing his LGBTQIA+ identity, the slur 'El Pato,' used for gay, was thrown at him regularly. 'I'm reclaiming that and that time and bringing it to now,' he said during a preview in his studio. His show notes dove deeper, reading: 'Hands like faggot, life like an ugly swan. Hand gestures gay, flamboyant, just like the clothes he wore.' Lopez is proud and standing strong in who he is. 'What's going on now. I'm born and raised in New York. I'm not going back anywhere. I'm staying right here,' he said. The first look was a white crocodile embossed suit, the blazer with a single strong shoulder while the other side exposed a bare shoulder, almost as if it had been thrown on backward. It was nipped at the waist and worn with skinny pants, heels and a feathered scarf on the head. A look that said, 'I am unapologetically me and I don't care what you think.' From there, Lopez pumped up the volume of the message with one look after another, a celebration of queer joy. A gray knit catsuit with webbed arms that held the hands like a limp wrist — a tongue in cheek take on a gesture many gay boys were made fun of for. There were opulent textures, particularly feathers, with one coat covered in black feathers that had been made in collaboration with the same atelier that works with Schiaparelli. Deep dark barrel jeans, cropped jackets with full sleeves, top coats with square shoulders almost brushing the floor, cocooning suits. Wool was another defining texture — he is a Woolmark Prize finalist for 2025 and he used the fabric in unexpected ways, like a gray quilted jacket that looked sporty and tech-driven, with pants to match. Toward the end of the lineup, New York ballroom icon Stephanie Milan came out carrying a new plush handbag shape — the runway birthed many new versions of Luar's hit Ana bag — in a luscious gray and white fur. It was belted with an 'L' logo belt with feathers that cascaded off her bosom. 'She's a legend, the story of her life,' he said bluntly. Milan is transgender, came from Colombia and married a rich man from uptown; she lived with him for 30 years only to lose it all when he died and his family took it away. The TV show 'Pose' is thought to be based on her. It's the type of grit that Lopez imbues into his clothing: Uber cool and take no BS, like the 'I talk s–t about you in Spanish' black T-shirt he paired with a massive white feather headpiece and knee-high boot.
