Fresh under pressure – Man conquers Comrades dressed in 13kg can of Shield deodorant.
Comrades Marathon 2025 had no shortage of tough runners, but one stood out like no other. LucQuevauvilliers, a five-time Comrades finisher, took on the 89.98km challenge this year, wearing a full-body 13kg Shield Can Man suit, turning heads and gaining loud cheers of support.
The partnership between Luc and Shield, one of South Africa's most trusted deodorant brands, served two important purposes – to put the products movement activated technology to use, and highlight its promise that when you bring the heat, Shield brings the freshness – and to help Luc support conservation efforts in South Africa, a cause close to his heart.
'Luc embodies the essence of what Shield stands for, confidence in motion, pushing limits, and doing it all with freshness,' said Aneska Narandas, Brand Manager for Shield South Africa. 'We're incredibly proud to have supported him on this wild journey, especially because it also shines a light on the incredible work that SANParks does.'
Despite the heat, the hills, and the extra 13kgs on his body, Luc crossed the finish line confident, dry, and still in good spirits.
'This was one of the most intense things I've ever done,' said Luc. 'But Shield kept me fresh every step of the way. I've run five Comrades, but this one? It was next level. I'm grateful to Shield for letting me do something totally outrageous – and prove that the product works under wild conditions.'
The Shield x Luc stunt became one of the weekend's most talked-about stories — drawing cheers from spectators, admiration from fellow runners, and traction across digital and social platforms whilst raising funds for SANParks, in support of South Africa's protected wilderness areas.
