Baby names are getting more DIVERSE: Experts reveal the top names in the UK over the last 20 years - as parents pull inspiration from around the world
When it comes to choosing a baby name, there are endless options. Some parents might opt for a traditional 'Jack', while others may go for more multicultural names such as 'Arlo' or 'Luca'. Now, research has revealed how baby names in Britain have become more culturally and linguistically diverse over the last 20 years. Analysis of the top baby names from 2004, 2014 and 2024 found today's most popular baby names come from a much wider range of countries and languages than they used to. The favourite baby names at the turn of the millennium were predominantly of English, Hebrew and Latin origin. Now, two decades later, Italian, Arabic, Norse, and even Scottish-Spanish names also top the list. Experts say parents now have a much broader frame of reference, and that there's a 'real shift' away from traditional choices. So, do you have one of these more multicultural names? Love Island star Luca Bish has a name with Italian origins. In 2024, it was the seventh most popular name for newborn baby boys Analysis, carried out by English language classes platform Preply, showed the majority of the most popular names in 2004 were of English, Hebrew or Latin origin. These included Jack, Joshua, Daniel, Emily and Jessica. Other popular names from that era were of Greek, Germanic and Celtic origin. But fast-forward to 2024 and a range of other cultural names are also in the top 20 list. These include Isla, which is Scottish/Spanish, Luca, which is Italian, Freya, which is Norse, and Muhammad, which is Arabic. 'As a nation, we're much more exposed to and connected with other cultures than we've ever been,' a spokeswoman for Preply said. 'The media we consume, the communities we engage with online, and global migration, have all played a key role in this shift. 'Parents now have a much broader frame of reference. 'Most of these names aren't necessarily new, they're just new to us!' They said names of Scandinavian and French origin, such as Evelyn and Mia, have begun making an appearance in the UK's top names lists, which they didn't in 2014 or 2004. 'This reflects a growing cultural diversity and openness to global influences in baby naming trends,' they added. 'We're also seeing a growing number of names with mythological or historical roots, like Phoebe and Ivy, being embraced by parents today. 'Overall, there's a real shift away from traditional choices in favour of names that feel unique and memorable.' The findings show that, as a nation, we're becoming more multicultural and linguistically diverse. 'Today, names of Arabic, Norse, Spanish, and Italian origin appear frequently in the top 20, names that didn't appear at all just 20 years ago,' the expert said. 'A key contributor is our desire for uniqueness. 'Rather than sticking with conventional name choices, we're selecting ones that feel more globally relevant.' 'Additionally, it demonstrates that we're being influenced by pop culture. 'The likes of celebrities, football stars, and even social media influencers are swaying our baby naming choices, often without us even realising.

Grace Jackson debuted a brand-new hairstyle on social media on Monday. The Love Island star, 26, took to her Instagram to show off her glamorous new look following a trip to celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton's salon. The beauty donned a realistic dark brunette wig, which was styled in a voluminous blowout. For the salon visit, the reality TV star sported a stylish burgundy activewear set, which showed off her taut midriff. The Love Island star has been locked in a war with Luca ever since he failed to pick her on the All Stars edition of the ITV2 dating show. 5 5 Samie was hellbent on making Luca her man and despite some initial flirting and romantic dalliances, Luca confessed that his heart remained with Grace Jackson - a bitter blow to Samie. In a brand new TikTok video, Samie appeared to reference Luca opting to choose blonde stunner Grace over her. It appeared that Samie was taking aim at Luca for admitting to preferring blonde girls over brunette ones as his reason for picking Grace. Samie has spoken about Luca on a number of occasions since their fleeting connection in the villa and has made her disdain for him known. Upon leaving the All Stars villa, she unfollowed his new girlfriend Grace and then a few weeks later, followed suit with him by removing him from her social media. Samie also insisted she confronted Grace over comments made by the star, during an interview on Millie Court and Liam Reardon 's podcast. Speaking to Millie and Liam, Samie admitted she took Grace to one side at The BRITs to confront her after they had both tried to avoid each other when partying with the same friends. She said on the podcast: "I did speak to her just because I said that I didn't appreciate that she called me the snakeiest Islander on the podcast. "I just said to her, honestly, I feel like I haven't done anything in my eyes to you and it was just about the messages and stuff." With her connection to Luca seemingly buried, Samie has appeared to move on with Sam Thompson. The pair have made their romance very public in the space of a few weeks having been snapped snogging in the streets. Sam has already defended the romance after many fans were left convinced it was a publicity stunt. Speaking to pal Pete Wicks, Sam said: "I stupidly looked at some comment and it was like 'calling the paps on themselves.' "Do you know what the f***ing worst thing is? Taunton nightclub announces new Love Island star to appear tomorrow
A DIFFERENT Love Island star is confirmed to appear at Labyrinth Nightclub in Taunton, after Luca Bish announced that he can't make it. Luca Bish, famously known for appearing on ITV2's Love Island in 2022 and Love Island All Stars in 2025, was set to come to the Taunton nightclub as part of a planned Meet and Greet event tomorrow (Saturday, May 3). However, this event has since been cancelled, with Labyrinth confirming a replacement for the Meet and Greet who also appeared on Love Island and Love Island All Stars. Known for his romance on the show with Harriet Blackmore, the footballer is set to make his first public appearance in Taunton, with tickets now available on Labyrinth's website. Labyrinth has confirmed that tickets for the original Luca Bish event are valid for this replacement event. Sending a video message for the nightclub to post online, Luca said: "Hi guys, sadly I won't be able to make it Saturday night (May 3)." The Love Island All Stars finalist then revealed why he couldn't make his planned weekend arrival, along with a hint at a future appearance in Taunton. Luca added: "I've got to stay in America to finish up some things, but hopefully I'll get to see you all soon." A spokesperson from Labyrinth Taunton said: "Unfortunately, Luca Bish is unable to be with us this Saturday night, so we have been working hard throughout the week to book you another Love Island All Star to take his place.
