Storm Track 3 Forecast: Warming temp trend, spotty mid-week rain chances

Mild morning with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. We will warm into the 60s this afternoon, seasonal for this time of year but well below the heat we saw over the weekend. Winds will be breezy out of the north today. A few gusts over 30 MPH will be possible through the afternoon, with winds relaxing after sunset. Fire Weather Warnings are in place for parts of northcentral Kansas through 9 PM. Sunny skies lead us into Tuesday with warming temperatures. Highs will range from the upper 60s to the low 70s across the state. Our next chance for moisture arrives late Tuesday night into Wednesday as a piece of energy tracks through the state. Rainfall amounts will be meager, but better chances of widespread showers producing beneficial moisture will arrive for the weekend. Temperatures continue to roller coaster this week with highs jumping back into the upper 80s and 90s on Thursday before cooling off back into the 60s on Saturday. Southeastern Kansas has been included in the Slight Risk for severe weather for this Friday, as a strong storm system could produce strong winds and hail. Rainfall will stick around for much of the weekend. Widespread showers and storms will roll through the Sunflower State. Storm Track 3 Forecast: Storms bring strong wind, hail, and tornadoes tonight

We are monitoring the potential for severe storms this evening. An Enhanced Risk is in place for a large portion of the Sunflower State, with all forms of severe weather possible. Temperatures will climb this afternoon ahead of the approaching boundary with highs in the 70s and 80s. Strong southerly winds will help to pull in this warmth and also to pull moisture into the region. Wind Advisories are in place through 1 AM as gusts up to 50 MPH are possible. Warm and windy conditions also lead to fire weather concerns. Fire Weather Warnings are in place for western Kansas through 10 PM tonight. Storms will begin to bubble up after 6 PM this evening as the approaching cold front collides with the warm, unstable airmass over central Kansas. We will also be watching for the development of supercell thunderstorms out ahead of the main line. Any supercell that forms will have the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Activity will then unzip along the cold front with a strong line of storms quickly tracking east. This will bring strong straight line winds to the region with pockets of heavy rain and hail. A spin up tornado or two along this line will also be possible. Storms will finally exit the region early Wednesday morning. We have a brief moment of calm weather on Wednesday before an unsettled pattern arrives for the second half of the week. This round of rainfall will bring beneficial, widespread moisture to the region. Showers will return on Thursday with daily rain chances through the weekend. KSN Storm Track 3 Forecast from Meteorologist Lucy Doll: Wichita:Today: Mostly cloudy, windy. 40% chance of thunderstorms. Storm Track 3 Forecast: All forms of severe weather possible Tuesday evening

After a mild Monday, storm chances will increase tomorrow. An Enhanced Risk for severe weather is in place for parts of central and eastern Kansas. The rest of the region will be under Slight Risk. All forms of severe weather will be possible. Temperatures will warm ahead of the approaching boundary. Highs will be in the 70s and 80s for most of the region as strong southerly winds help pull warmer air into the Sunflower State. Northwest Kansas will be the coolest with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s as they will be the first to see the front pass overhead. Fire Weather Watches and Warnings are in place for a large part of western Kansas from 10 AM through 10 PM Tuesday. With strong winds, dry conditions, and warm temperatures, it will not take much for any spark that starts to get out of control. Winds out of the south will be strong tomorrow. Widespread wind gusts from 40 to 50 MPH will be possible throughout the day. Wind Advisories are in place for most of central Kansas from 10 AM Tuesday through 1 AM Wednesday as gusty conditions follow us through the overnight. Southerly flow will also be working to bring moisture into the state. Moisture will be a key factor in our severe weather potential. As the front collides with the warm, moist, unstable airmass over central Kansas, storms will be able to form and quickly strengthen as they have all the fuel they will need to produce severe weather. We can expect to see rumbles of thunder begin to initiate after 6 PM. There will be two areas to watch, along the front itself and out ahead of the boundary. The isolated storms that will form out ahead of the main line will have the greatest potential of producing tornadoes. These storms will not have to compete for energy with any other storms and can quickly become supercells. All forms of severe weather will be possible tomorrow as storms track through the state. Winds over 70 MPH, tennis ball sized hail, and tornadoes will all be concerns. Now is the time to go over your severe weather plan and be prepared in the event of severe weather in your area tomorrow evening. The front will quickly track east during the late evening. Storms will form a line along the boundary, and straight line winds will become the primary concern. We could still see a spin up tornado or two along the leading line of storms. The good news is that the strong winds will propel the storms quickly out of the Sunflower State by early Wednesday morning. We dry out on Wednesday before an unsettled pattern arrives for the last half of the workweek. Better chances of widespread, beneficial rainfall will arrive for the upcoming weekend.
