Young mum (27) pleads guilty to possession of guns and ammunition in Dublin
Sarah Jane Byrne appeared before the three-judge Special Criminal Court today where she pleaded guilty to five offences A 27-year-old mum has been released on continuing bail after she admitted being in possession of a firearms arsenal spread out over two locations in Dublin last year. Sarah Jane Byrne, of Mangorton Road, Drimnagh, Dublin 12 appeared before the three-judge Special Criminal Court today where she pleaded guilty to five offences. Her barrister, Keith Spencer BL, told the court that Ms Byrne was dealing with addiction at the time of her arrest. She has been attending a rehabilitation programme and is the mother of a ten-month-old child, he said. He asked the court to order a probation report ahead of sentencing. The Director of Public Prosecutions did not oppose bail. Ms Justice Karen O'Connor set the sentencing hearing for October 20 this year and ordered a probation report. Byrne pleaded guilty that on 16 February 2024 at Old Navan Road in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 she had in her possession or under control a 9mm Makarov semi-automatic pistol and ammunition in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference she did not have them for a lawful purpose. On the same date, at her home address, she pleaded guilty to similar charges relating to possession of 27 rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, a 12-gauge "over and under" sawn-off Beretta shotgun, and a Tokarev submachine gun. Man pleads guilty to using ghost gun while selling meth
The 38-year-old man who from the city following injuries he suffered in a 2021 police pursuit pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges that he used a ghost gun while selling methamphetamine in Waianae. Jonaven Perkins-Sinapati was arrested twice in May 2024 on suspicion of drug and gun charges. The city back despite his guilty plea to federal drug and gun crimes. He was charged May 24 by federal criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to federal court records. Perkins-Sinapati entered into a plea agreement Wednesday with the U.S. Department of Justice and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was charged April 30 with both offenses by federal information. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $10 million fine for dealing methamphetamine and up to 15 years in federal prison and a $250, 000 fine on the gun charge. Perkins-Sinapati will be sentenced at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 before U.S. District Judge Shanlyn A.S. Park. On May 23 the Honolulu Police Department got an anonymous tip that Perkins-Sinapati was driving a black 2017 Jaguar F-Pace sport utility vehicle and was wanted on an outstanding state warrant with a bail amount of $1 million, according to federal court records. Perkins-Sinapati was charged in, 2024, with several firearm and ammunition offenses, third-degree promoting a dangerous drug and second-degree reckless endangering. On May 23 an HPD officer saw the black Jaguar SUV, and a passenger throw a dark bag out of the window. The officer recovered the bag and allegedly found 102 grams of pure methamphetamine. In the bag, the officer also found a loaded, homemade 9mm ghost gun pistol, seven rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition and four rounds of.40-caliber Smith and Wesson Hornady ammunition. HPD pulled over Perkins-Sinapati at the intersection of Farrington Highway and Lualualei Homestead Road. The officer saw ammunition in the cup holder of the Jaguar and recovered 49 rounds from the SUV. HPD arrested Perkins-Sinapati and his passenger on suspicion of multiple state gun charges. A fanny pack found in the car had 45 grams of methamphetamine in it and $1, 721 in cash. Perkins-Sinapati faces enhanced penalties if convicted in state court since he has prior felony convictions for car theft, robbery and promotion of a dangerous drug. On May 4, 2024, at about 1 :13 p.m., Perkins-Sinapati fired a gun in a residential area near Ewa Makai Middle School. The city agreed to pay $12.5 million to Perkins-Sinapati, the driver of a car that crashed on Sept. 12, 2021, in Makaha during a pursuit by Honolulu police officers who allegedly left the scene, only to return and act as if nothing happened. A trial for the four Honolulu police officers accused of causing the car chase, crash and covering it up until an appeals court can rule on a claim by defense attorneys that the law the case hangs on is too vague. Officers Joshua J.S. Nahulu, 37, Erik X.K. Smith, 25, and Jake R.T. Bartolome, 35, are free on bail after they were arrested nearly two years after the Sept. 12, 2021, incident, which left a teenager partially paralyzed and a career criminal with a traumatic brain injury. A fourth officer, Robert G. Lewis III, whose age was not released by the department, also faces criminal charges in connection with the crash and cover-up. Seven officers were disciplined in connection with the incident. Nahulu, Smith and Barto lome were terminated but filed grievances against the department. The grievance process is being held in abeyance until the criminal cases are adjudicated. Nahulu is charged with collisions involving death or serious bodily injury for allegedly causing the crash near the corner of Farring ton Highway and Orange Street that paralyzed Dayton Gouveia and left Perkins-Sinapati, driver of the white 2000 four-door Honda Civic that crashed, with a traumatic brain injury. The Sept. 12, 2021, incident has cost taxpayers at least $24 million and is one of the most expensive civil matters in Honolulu history. Perkins-Sinapati got $12.5 million, and city attorneys agreed to pay $7 million to Gouveia, a teenager who was partially paralyzed in the crash. Four other passengers who sustained injuries in the early morning crash recently settled with the city for $4.5 million. Those passengers were 17, 18, 20 and 21 years old at the time of the crash.

Sentencing delayed for man convicted of shooting outside EC bar
CHIPPEWA FALLS — Sentencing for a Chippewa Falls man convicted of shooting a gun outside an Eau Claire tavern in August 2020 was once again delayed Thursday, after his attorney made a last-minute request asking for additional time to obtain an alternate pre-sentencing investigation. Travis W. Rosciszewski, 51, 912 Pearl St., fired 11 shots in the August 2020 incident, then skipped out on his sentencing in November 2023 after pleading no contest in Chippewa County Court to being a felon in possession of a firearm. As part of the plea agreement, charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and negligent handling of a weapon were read in and dismissed. When Rosciszewski didn't show up for his sentencing, Judge Benjamin Lane revoked his $2,000 cash bond and issued a warrant for his arrest. Court records show this was at least the third time Rosciszewski failed to attend court; warrants were issued for him in Sept. 2022 and in April 2023. Rosciszewski was finally apprehended in November 2024 and has been incarcerated in the Chippewa County Jail since. His bond has been revoked as well. Rosciszewski was slated to be sentenced Thursday, but defense attorney Ryan Koehler requested another delay to obtain the alternate PSI. Chippewa County Assistant District Attorney Sheila Yohnk expressed frustration, pointing out that the case is now nearly five years old, and the original sentencing date was more than a year ago. Lane reluctantly agreed to the delay, and re-set sentencing for May 6. He warned Koehler the sentencing would take place that day, with or without an alternate PSI on file. Lane noted that the presentence investigation conducted by the Department of Corrections calls for a prison sentence. 'He is realizing what the consequences could be, and he wants another bite at the apple,' Lane said. 'It's not sitting well with the court.' The shooting at the bar occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 8, 2020, outside Hobbsy and Me bar, 3620 Locust Lane, in a portion of Eau Claire located in Chippewa County. According to the criminal complaint, two groups began arguing outside the tavern, when a man — identified as Rosciszewski — got a gun from his red pickup truck and fired a series of shots. A female ride-share driver was sitting in her vehicle outside the tavern and observed the man pull out the gun. She said one shot struck the rear driver's side quarter panel of her car. Both the bartender and bar owner observed the altercation as well. Officers found seven spent ammunition casings, and the bar employees found another four. The casings matched a Luger 9mm gun. Police obtained video surveillance from outside the tavern and shared those images on the department's Facebook page. Officers later were able to identify a woman who was dating Rosciszewski, and she said he was the driver of the red pickup truck. However, she claimed she chose to walk home and didn't see anyone fire a weapon. When officers interviewed Rosciszewski on the phone, he claimed he heard fireworks. He admitted he was not supposed to have a firearm. Rosciszewski refused to give a current address to officers, and refused to come in for an in-person meeting, so a warrant was issued for his arrest. Online court records show that Rosciszewski was convicted of theft of movable property in Eau Claire County Court in 1997 and was sentenced to eight years in prison. He has prior convictions for escape, burglary and receiving stolen property. In February 2024, Rosciszewski also was charged in Chippewa County Court with criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct—domestic abuse, bail jumping and misdemeanor theft. Rosciszewski entered a no contest plea in that case Thursday, and will serve one year in jail, but was given credit for 114 days already served. According to the criminal complaint, a Lake Hallie woman told police she has been dating Rosciszewski. He came to her home unannounced on Jan. 25. They got into a verbal argument. She 'stated Rosciszewski picked up a cement block and smashed it into her windshield.' He then threw a block through a driver's side window. She contacted police, and he fled on foot, taking her cell phone with him. The officer observed the damage to the vehicle, which was estimated at $5,000.
