Rachel Reeves told petrol prices would be near record highs without current fuel duty cuts

PETROL prices would be near record highs without the current fuel duty cuts, Rachel Reeves was warned today. The AA cheered the lowest pump costs since July 2021 - but says it is solely due to the 5p cut to the hated driving tax won by The Sun's Keep It Down campaign. Advertisement A drop in the Without the 5p cut, the cost of fuelling a car would now be an average 138.3p a litre, according to the AA. The Keep It Down tax break for drivers is safe until next year. But Advertisement Luke Bosdet, spokesperson for the AA said: 'The importance of the continuing 5p cut in fuel duty cannot be underestimated. 'Without the duty cut, petrol would still be uncomfortably close to the record level seen before the pandemic and Ukraine war economic shock. 'The Chancellor needs to consider this in upcoming tax deliberations.' Millions of drivers warned to fill up on fuel THIS WEEKEND as prices drop to 4-year low – check cheapest place near you

DRIVERS have been urged to fill up on fuel this weekend as prices will drop to a four year low. The cost of petrol has dropped to its lowest level since July 2021. 2 Yesterday, it plummeted to 132.3p a litre, which is a fall of over 3p in the last month. It was hovering around 135.5p in early April, but the AA warned this is likely the cheapest fuel will get. A decline in cost over the last few weeks has gradually slowed down to a "trickle". The fall in cost of diesel has likewise slowed down, coming in at 138.5p a litre on Thursday. But pump prices are still subject to a 5p-a-litre fuel duty cut. Luke Bosdet, the AA's spokesman on road fuel prices, told the Mail: "Without the duty cut, petrol would still be uncomfortably close to the record level seen before the pandemic and Ukraine war economic shock. "The Chancellor needs to consider this in upcoming tax deliberations." UK petrol and diesel prices can vary dramatically from region to region and even in towns that are only a few miles apart. Sometimes fuel can even be cheaper in a more rural location than in an urban one. It comes after The Sun revealed the cheapest petrol station in the UK that could save motorists £200 a year. And last week, savvy motorists could not believe their luck after stumbling across ultra-low fuel prices at Costco. The wholesale warehouse chain was charging customers 120p for petrol, 127p for diesel, and 132p for premium unleaded. 2
