DAZN confirm end of Ligue 1 broadcasting contract

DAZN have confirmed to L'Équipe that they have reached an agreement with the LFP to end their Ligue 1 broadcasting contract. DAZN only signed the deal to broadcast Ligue 1 for the five-year cycle at the start of the season. The deal allowed the British broadcaster to show eight of the nine Ligue 1 matches within the gameweek for an annual fee of €375m. That deal was meant to run until 2029, however, it has already reached an end, as confirmed by DAZN. Advertisement DAZN will pay a fee of €100m to break the contract, as well as the final two payments worth another €140m. This agreement between the broadcaster and the league will be presented to the LFP's administrative council on the 2nd May. 'There is an exit option in the contract that ties us to the league, because they want to launch their own channel,' the broadcaster told L'Équipe, confirming the LFP's desire to create their own channel, which will then be partnered with one, or multiple broadcasters, including DAZN. 'Coming to France, losing money and then stopping after one year doesn't make much sense. We are convinced that in the context of the Ligue 1 channel project, we can bring a lot of added value,' the broadcaster told L'Équipe. If DAZN were to be partnered with the LFP's channel, the latter would renounce the €100m fee for breaking the contract. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Round 28: PSG look to wrap up title against Angers

Ligue 1 Predictions | Round 28: PSG look to wrap up title against Angers Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 28 GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle and GFFN's Raphaël Jucobin face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It's three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season? Advertisement SCORES Raphaël: 146 Luke: 173 Game of the week: Olympique Lyonnais v Lille OSC, Saturday 20:05 (UK) Lyon suffered a big defeat at the hands of Strasbourg on Friday. The 4-2 loss to a direct rival for the European places leaves them with ground to make up. However, the scoreline arguably was not a fair reflection with Lyon playing well in the first half and accumulating a higher xG than their opponents (1.78 to 2.87) over the course of the match. It doesn't need to be all doom and gloom at OL but it will be if they can't get a result against another direct competitor for the top four, Lille. If OL are free-flowing, open, dynamic, and exciting, Lille have been anything but in recent weeks. Advertisement There could be a physical factor at play here. Lille's season began at the start of August due to having to go through the Champions League playoffs. Having already played four intense European matches by the end of August, it would only be normal if that is starting to catch up on them, especially since an injury crisis in mid-season prevented Lille from rotating. LOSC did get over the line against Lens, profiting from a Mathew Ryan error to net the only goal of the game. Les Sang et Or deserved at least a point, however. Only two points separate these two sides but Lyon, despite a heavy loss last weekend, are perhaps better set-up to grab all three points here. France's World Cup qualification group confirmed

France secured their place in the final four of the UEFA Nations League thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Croatia (2-0, agg. 2-2, pens 6-4) at the Stade de France on Sunday. It is a result that also has implications for their FIFA World Cup qualifying group. The Nations League win over Croatia not only sets up a date with Spain in the semi-final of the competition in June, but it also means that France's qualification group is confirmed. Les Bleus have been placed in a group with Ukraine, Iceland and Azerbaijan. Of the three, Ukraine (25th in the FIFA rankings) are the highest-ranked of France's upcoming opponents, then comes Iceland (70th) and finally Azerbaijan (117th). France will get their campaign underway with an away trip against Ukraine (likely to be played at a neutral ground) on 5th September with the final match of the campaign away to Azerbaijan on 16th November. Les Bleus will be looking to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in what is confirmed to be Didier Deschamps' final tournament in charge of Les Bleus. By the time he leaves the post, he will have been in charge of the national team for 14 years. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
