Lynn Haven Elementary School students celebrate last day of school with a water play day
LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – Lynn Haven Elementary School students also celebrated their 176th and final day of the school year on Wednesday. They took the Florida Assessment Student Thinking Test three times this school year to determine their promotion to the next grade level. Students who scored a 4 or 5, or showed improvement on the test, received a special ticket to participate in a water play day. 170 students got to enjoy the water slides and activities. However, they also say they'll miss their teachers. 'The last in school can always be hard for me because, like, I've always loved my teachers. I've never had an extra strict teacher. Like, my teacher is always just perfect,' Lynn Haven Elementary third-grader Kennedy Hudson said. 'It would be a little great if we got to see them more during the summer, but they can't, and we have to come to school, and it may be a little bit sad that we have to leave them,' Lynn Haven Elementary third-grader Nicholas Nelson said. 'This year has been really fun. I really enjoy fourth grade. And all the teachers here are very nice,' Lynn Haven Elementary fourth-grader Kealy Madison said. Thursday is the final day of school in Franklin, Gulf and Okaloosa Counties. Liberty and Walton counties will end their school year on Friday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Lynn Haven Elementary counselor brings sunshine and encouragement to all
LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – In the truest sense, Lynn Haven Elementary School guidance counselor Sarah Thompson is a ray of sunshine. When you speak to her and others who work alongside her, there is one word that always seems to pop up when you describe Sarah. 'She is absolutely our campus encourager,' said Lynn Haven Elementary School Principal Stacie Anderson. 'She lifts people up when they're down. She's really somebody that people easily lean into. She's a wonderful listener. She just kind of lifts you up if you're feeling down, and it's happening all over campus.' 'They smile, they're happy to see me,' Thompson added. 'They want to come and talk to me because they know they're going to get encouragement and a pep talk and good advice.' Despite this being her first year as a guidance counselor, Thompson has perfected her approach to talking and getting on the same level as her students. Kindergarten teacher Hallie Evans inspires with dedication Her desire to help in any way possible truly makes her stand out amongst others. 'You just can't thank someone enough for having that nature of being a helper,' Anderson went on to say. 'She's really just kind of that servant to her community, helping people out, helping the students, the families, whatever the needs are. She's going to jump in and do our very best to help her find someone who can do it.' Thompson hopes her constant positivity and encouragement have a positive impact on the students at Lynn Haven Elementary. 'When you have a positive cheerleader at school, even when you're feeling down, that's going to help you, that's going to brighten your mood and lift your day, and want you to be motivated, that's going to help you be motivated,' said Thompson. W.R. Tolar K-8 teacher inspires all who she encounters
BRISTOL, Fla. (WMBB) – Deborah Jacobs is in the midst of her 4th year teaching 6th grade English Language Arts at W.R. Tolar K-8 up in Bristol. A constant ray of sunshine around the campus she is always sure to bring a helpful and inspirational attitude into her classroom each day. 'For me, it's like seeing that kind of light bulb come on, and when they get it and when they're excited about it,' said Jacobs. 'So it's really about teaching them to believe in themselves and giving them the opportunity to grow and to shine and to feel just proud of themselves.' That positive, can-do attitude not only rubs off on the students but the faculty as well. 'She makes you want to be here,' added W.R. Tolar K-8 Math teacher Samantha Newsome. 'She makes you want to come in and enjoy being with the kids. She is always positive, uplifting, even for her coworkers, not just her students. So it's always a pleasure coming to work.' No one can say Jacobs isn't dedicated to her job as she drives over an hour each way to get to and from W.R. Tolar every day, and there is a good reason why she does it. 'I drive from Wakulla County every day, but it's well worth the drive,' Jacobs went on to say. 'People ask me all the time, like, 'Why don't you want to work over there?' I'm like, I'm just drawn to the kids and the people here.' Lynn Haven Elementary teacher simplifies subjects For some that commute may seem crazy, but when you learn who some of her co-workers are everything becomes clear. 'If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't get to see them as often,' said Joey Jacobs who is not only a teacher at the school, but Deborah's father as well. 'It's a blessing because I get to see them every weekday, Monday through Friday. I know I get to see my kids' Not only is Deborah lucky enough to work closely with her father, but her sister works at the school as well. For those closest to her it's truly an honor getting to see Deborah teach every day. 'It's getting to watch her do what I believe she's called to do. I believe that. Just getting to see her interact with those kids and you can just see her lift them up,' said Joey Jacobs. 'I mean, it's just the best way to describe it. She's such an uplifting person and presence in all of their lives.' 'She always makes them feel like when they come into that room or they encounter her that they are one in a million,' Newsome went on to say. 'It doesn't matter if she's taught them before, teaching them this year. It's always all about them, and I think that's a reflection of how big her heart is.' That is what makes Deborah Jacobs a Class Act. If there is someone out there who you think is a Class Act don't hesitate to nominate them today. Whether it's students or faculty, everyone notices the care and dedication Wallis shares with all who walk the school's halls. 'Everybody loves working with Miss Wallace, and they go to her as a resource for friendship, camaraderie, good laughs, and smiles,' said Lynn Haven Elementary Assistant Principal Stefanie Bohannon. 'She can always make you feel better on a hard day.' When speaking to Wallis yourself you notice immediately how much she enjoys teaching math and seeing things click in her student's heads. 'It's just really, really cool when you start a lesson and they don't understand that first day and they think they're never going to get it,' added Wallis. 'There's always that push to say, 'Hey, I know you can do this.' It might be a struggle, right now, but I know that you're going to get to that end goal,' Wallis went on to say. 'Hopefully they see that in a positive way and not a negative.' But Wallis' best quality may just be the positivity she provides every day. 'She is a ray of sunshine in everybody's lives,' Bohannon said. 'All of her students and her colleagues alike can go to her with anything and she always makes you feel better. She's got a very positive attitude and she's a great teacher, she knows her content. She's always putting her heart and soul into making sure her students learn.'
