CBSE students dominate KCET top ranks

Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar announced the results of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2025 on Saturday, and students from Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) dominated the top ranks. Announcing the results at the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) office here on Saturday, the Minister said, 'One grace mark has been awarded in physics and biology, for one question, two answers have been considered. In chemistry, two answers for two questions were considered.' 'KEA is ready for counselling, but we will wait for the NEET results to be announced,' he added. In the engineering stream, of the top 10 rankers, seven were from CBSE and three from the State's Pre-University board. This was the same case in veterinary and BSc Nursing. In Pharma-D and B-Pharma, 8 toppers were from CBSE and two from State board colleges. In BSc (Agri), State students managed to secure the top nine ranks. In Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, five students from both the boards secured ranks in the top 10. Students who secured the top ten ranks in all the streams were from colleges either in Bengaluru or Mangaluru. Bhavesh Jayanthi, from Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, Bengaluru, secured 99.06% and emerged as the topper in the engineering stream. Satwik B. Biradar, from Chaitanya Techno School. Uttarahalli. Bengaluru stood second with 98.83% and the third topper was Dhinesh Gomathi Shankar Arunachalam, also from Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, with 98.67%. Harishraj D.V., who bagged first ranks in BVSc (Veterinary), Nursing, and Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science (BNYS), was from Narayana E-Techno School, Yelahanka, Bengaluru. He also got sixth rank in BSc (Agriculture). In BSc (Agriculture), Akshay M. Hegde from Alva's PU college, Moodbidri, and Saish Sharavan Pandit and Suchith P. Prasad from Expert PU college, Mangaluru have secured first, second and third ranks respectively. Aathreya Venkatachalam is the topper in B-Pharma and Pharma-D course with 91.11% He secured second rank in Nursing and BNYS courses. Meanwhile, changing the trend, the boys managed to outshine girls by securing most top ranks. In all the streams, all the top ten ranks were bagged by boys except in BSc (Agri) where Sneha I. Yaraganavi secured rank 5. This year, a total of 2,75,677 students cleared CET: 2,62,195 in engineering stream, 1,98,679 for BNYS, 2,14,588 for BSc (Agri), 2,18,282 for BVSc, 2,66,256 for B-Pharma, 2,66,757 for Pharma-D, and 2,08,171 eligible for BSc Nursing course. Decreased eligibility Compared to the previous year, the number of students eligible for admission to engineering courses has reduced. In CET-2024, a total of 2.75 lakh students were eligible for engineering and this time the same has come down to 2,62,195. This trend is similar in all the other streams. Dr. Sudhakar said it is mainly because of the dip in science pass percentage in the II PUC exams. 'Compared to last year, the number of students cleared the II PUC science stream has witnessed a dip and that has impacted on the CET eligibility,' he stated. In 2024, as many as 2,46,744 cleared II PU Science stream in annual exam-1, but this year, that number has dipped to 2,31,461 in annual exam 1 and in annual exam-2, around 18000 cleared science stream, but not all registered for CET. Wrong entry by 10,000 students Despite creating awareness, at least 10,000 students have entered wrong data which delayed the results. For those who have not received their CET results because of errors in the entries, KEA will provide a link to upload the marks from May 26 and spot ranks will be issued to such students. Helpline Considering the increase in calls to the helpline and complaints about not addressing the calls properly, the KEA has extended the helpline from 8 am to 8 pm on all seven days, including holidays.
