Awareness rally organised on level crossing safety in Visakhapatnam

A week-long awareness campaign is being organised by Waltair Division of East Coast Railway from June 5, to promote safe practices at level crossings. The initiative is a part of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), a global campaign of the International Union of Railways (UIC) The ILCAD theme for 2025 is: 'Helping People Make Good Decisions' and the slogan 'Safe Decisions – Every Time.' The campaign involves active participation from Civil Defence personnel, Civil Engineering staff, and Railway Safety teams, who are engaging with the public across the Division through rallies, awareness drives and street plays. An awareness rally was flagged off from the Divisional Railway Manager's (DRM) Office, by Manoj Kumar Sahoo, ADRM (Operations), E Santharam, ADRM (Infrastructure), M.K. Sahoo, Senior Divisional Safety Officer and other officers on Friday. On this occasion, civil defence volunteeers performed a street play at the DRM Office Annex, Dondaparthi, highlighting the common risks and safe behaviour at level crossings. Addressing the gathering, ADRMs emphasised the importance of safety awareness at level crossings to prevent accidents and safeguard lives and property. The general public were urged to follow all safety guidelines and exercise caution when crossing railway tracks to ensure their own safety and that of others. The safety campaign is being coordinated by M.K. Sahoo, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, who has mobilised teams to conduct awareness activities throughout the Division. M. Satyanarayana, Principal, Divisional Training Institute, leading the engineering team, and K.Y. Reddy, Civil Defence Inspector, heading the Civil Defence contingent took active part in this campaign. As part of the campaign, intensified awareness drives will be carried out at level crossing gates, public areas, and locations near railway tracks, according to K. Saandeep, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager.
