M53 is SHUT due to rush-hour crash with traffic stopped as ‘all emergency crews' scrambled to scene
THE M53 has shut due to a rush-hour crash - after traffic was stopped as "all emergency crews" scrambled to the scene.
The motorway has closed between junction five at Eastham and junction six at Ellesmere Port heading southbound following the collision in Liverpool.
Congestion has been reported back to junction five.
National Highways originally reported the accident shortly after 8.30 this morning, saying: "Traffic stopped due to a collision."
It later confirmed that the road was closed, with "all emergency services" deployed to the scene - including cops, ambulances and the fire service.
Drivers were warned to "expect long delays in the area".
Inrix traffic monitor said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M53 Southbound from J6 (Hooton) to J7 B5132 Netherpool Road (Overpool).
"Congestion to back past J5 (Eastham) for southbound.
"The northbound side slows as traffic passes the scene.
"All traffic was held around 08:35am."
