Another police officer detained over RM15mil C4i maintenance contract probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Another police officer, with the rank of Superintendent, has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in investigations into a RM15 million contract for the maintenance of the Command, Control, Communication & Computer Integration (C4i) system. Sources said the officer was arrested on suspicion of receiving bribes from contractors and subcontractors involved in the project. "Searches were also conducted at the suspect's office and residence in Semenyih, Selangor, in efforts to uncover documents related to the alleged bribe payments. "So far, a total of RM7.6 million in bank accounts has been frozen, while 15 statements have been recorded from both witnesses and the suspect," the source added. MACC Special Operations senior director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin confirmed the arrest when contacted and said a remand application would be submitted at the Putrajaya magistrate's court tomorrow. Yesterday, six individuals, including a company director, a chief financial officer and two police officers, were arrested in connection with allegedly submitting false claims related to the same contract. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had said initial investigations were conducted internally when a review of the C4i contract revealed He said yesterday that the investigation found that there was an improper payment to the company involved and the MACC was informed in order to facilitate an investigation. A seven-day remand order until April 30, was granted by magistrate Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor at the Putrajaya magistrate's court yesterday.
