Security stepped at at strategic locations, people need not fear: Chennai Police Commissioner
Following the launch of Operation Sindoor and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun said on Friday that security has been strengthened at strategic locations in the city to ensure public safety.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Arun said, 'We have enhanced security at locations where large crowds gather and intensified surveillance at strategic points. Personnel from both the intelligence wing and the law and order division are maintaining constant vigilance. Security arrangements have been heightened at malls, theatres, and temples.'
'We have also intensified vehicle checks, while ensuring that the general public is not inconvenienced. Our personnel have been instructed to remain alert. People can go about their daily routines normally; there is no need for fear or anxiety. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure public safety,' Mr. Arun added.
Bomb Threat to MAC Stadium and Cricket Players
Meanwhile, an anonymous individual, allegedly from Pakistan, sent a threat email to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, claiming that a bomb would be detonated at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. As a result, the IPL match scheduled for May 12 has been suspended. A separate email also threatened the lives of cricket players.
Mr. Arun confirmed receipt of the threat and stated that an investigation has been launched. A senior police officer said, 'It appears the email was sent from outside the country via the darknet. We are currently tracing the origin of the message. Another email is being investigated by central agencies.'
