'Fafau' tells Malaysian women's gamers to boost mental power

KUALA LUMPUR: To do better than bronze at the Sea Games two years ago, Malaysia's female Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) players must strengthen their minds. This was stated by Nurul Effa Fauzana "Fafau" Fauzi. Nurul was part of the team that won Malaysia's first ever Sea Games medal in eSports (for women), in 2023 in Phnom Penh. While the national squad for the Thailand Sea Games in December have not been finalised, Nurul and her team, NAVI MY, will compete in the World Cup x MLBB Women's Invitational and the World Esports Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later this year. "The main area we need to improve on is our mental strength," said Nurul. "As long as we possess mental resilience and a burning desire to win, we are capable of bettering our bronze-medal finish in Phnom Penh." Nurul and her NAVI MY teammates have been competing in Season 3 of the MLBB Academy League (MAL) against male teams. Although they lost all their five matches so far, Nurul said facing male opponents has been a valuable experience for them. "We are using the MAL as a platform to mentally prepare ourselves for high-pressure tournaments. "There is no women's league in Malaysia, so playing against the boys provides us with vital match experience.

The training was initiated and funded by the North Malaita Constituency (NMC) Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL). Facilitated by MAL technical officers, the training involved both theoretical and practical field sessions. 'Following our delivery of agriculture and fisheries equipment and tools to the constituency in January 2025, we have developed follow-up activities and this training is a part of it,' Francis Baeburi, the Constituency Accountant Officer (CAO), who spoke on behalf of the Constituency office said. The program activities focused on the appropriate use of farming tools, cocoa plant management practices such as pruning and grafting techniques including soil testing. 'Farmers were excited and expressed satisfaction at having learned firsthand information and knowledge from specialized MAL officers and are highly encouraged,' Mr. Baeburi added. 'As part of the constituency's annual development plan and commitment, our primary aim is to encourage our people to actively participate in the rural productive sector and improve productivity particularly in cocoa as the basis for improved rural economy. This we believe will lead toward economic self-reliance for our households.' Mr. Baeburi, on behalf of the NMC office, expressed profound gratitude to MAL for accepting their request to conduct the training, ensuring that farmers acquired important knowledge and skills in agricultural practices to enhance their farming production. Mr. Baeburi also extended his appreciation to all farmers for their patience, time, and participation, which contributed to the success of the training. He encouraged participants to utilize the skills and knowledge they acquired and to share the information with others who were unable to join the training. 'Our next follow-up activity will focus on fisheries and will be scheduled soon after consultation with the responsible ministry. 'These activities are a continuation and ongoing implementation of our 2024 work plan. We look forward to improving on what we have started once the CDF budget for this year is available,' Mr. Baeburi said. The current farmers program was funded by NMC Office under its CDF budget for 2024. The MRD, while commending the collaboration between MAL and the Constituency Office for the successful training, said that the partnership to deliver Constituency Development Programs (CDP) is a way forward for the country. 'This kind of inter-governmental agency partnership in delivering rural development initiatives such as this is encouraging and important. It is the ministry's (MRD) plan now, going forward, to collaborate with technical ministries in terms of resources and information sharing to deliver government services for our people in the rural communities across the 50 constituencies.' MRD remains committed to continuing to support constituency offices with resources to effectively implement their development programs aimed at improving social and economic livelihoods in rural areas.

Cuckoo Malaysia delays IPO due to volatile global market

SINGAPORE: Household goods maker Cuckoo International (MAL) Bhd is postponing its initial public offering on the Malaysian stock exchange by two months due to the current global market volatility, according to a statement late Wednesday. The IPO was expected to raise more than 470 million ringgit ($105.22 million) when launched in March. The listing, initially planned for April 30, is now anticipated to be completed by June 24, Cuckoo Malaysia said. "As the market presents near-term challenges, we believe that this is a prudent decision," Chief Executive Officer Hoe Kian Choon said in the statement. "We remain confident in the company's long-term prospects and is committed to maintaining the company's momentum across all business segments." The company said it will allow investors who have submitted their applications to withdraw from the IPO. It will issue a supplementary prospectus and announce details of the withdrawal process in due course. The rescheduling of the IPO came against the backdrop of volatile global markets triggered by escalating trade tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump declared overnight an immediate 90-day tariff pause for many countries but raised the levy on Chinese imports to 125%. Signal chat group members partied at $1 million-a-plate Mar-a-Lago dinner after Yemen bombings: Report

Members of a Trump administration chat group which apparently inadvertently leaked U.S. military operations in Yemen to a journalist reportedly partied with the president at a $1-million-a-seat fundraising dinner at Mar-a-Lago after the plotted bombings took place. Hours after the alarming breach of national security involving the journalist, and the fatal bombings in Yemen, which both took place March 15, several members of the Signal chat group attended the 'candlelight fundraising dinner,' Wired reported. Some 53 people, including children, were killed in the attacks on Yemen. The dinner event included guests who had been on the chat earlier before the bombings: National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to Wired. Others apparently included were Trump's Middle East and Ukraine negotiator Steve Witkoff, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Wired reported. Elon Musk and his 4-year-old son also attended. No one apparently yet knew that the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic Jeffrey Goldberg had been secretly in on the Signal group call after he was apparently inadvertently added by one of the participants. The call included multiple senior officials, incuding JD Vance, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. The chat reportedly discussed a highly sensitive operation aimed Houthi positions in Yemen, with extremely specific details provided by Hegseth. The chat members remained connected following the military operations that day in Yemen, and congratulated one another. A profile known as 'MAR,' believed to be 'Marco Antonio Rubio,' texted: 'Good Job Pete and your team!!' — referring to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The profile believed to be Waltz later replied: 'The team in MAL did a great job too,' seemingly referring to those at Mar-a-Lago, including Miller, Waltz, and Rubio. The Trump team has reportedly often used MAL as shorthand for the president's Florida residence. The Independent has contacted the White House for comment about whether Waltz, Rubio and Miller attended the Mar-a-Lago dinner.
