5 Missing, 1 Dead After Boat Capsized Off Coast of Florida
One person died and five remain missing after a boat capsized off the southeast coast of Florida. Four people were rescued roughly 29 miles off the Saint Lucie Inlet, according to officials. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) responded to the scene around 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, after receiving a report from a good Samaritan about an overturned vessel.
According to a report from Fox-affiliated station WSVN, one of the rescued individuals told authorities that the group had departed from the Bahamas and the vessel capsized on Friday.
The Martin County Fire Rescue (MCFR) confirmed via X that five people were located, with one deceased and four transported for medical evaluation. The rescued individuals were flown by helicopter to Stuart Airport.
In a follow-up post via X, MCFR said three of the patients had non-life-threatening injuries, while one suffered serious injuries. All were taken to Cleveland South Hospital for treatment.
