NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers honored 21 students from various cities in New Mexico as they graduated from the PNM Power Pros program. Power Pros is a 15-week career and technical education (CTE) program that prepares students for careers in the electric utility industry. Graduates of the program from ACE Leadership High School, Silver High, Cliff High School, and Cobre Consolidated High School all earned OSHA 10 certification and CTE course credits. City of Albuquerque offers free lunches for children over the summer 'PNM's investment in PNM Power Pros is an investment in our youth, our future, and our state,' said Don Tarry, President and CEO of PNM. 'We are committed to supporting New Mexico schools and communities, and we believe that developing a high-skilled energy workforce is crucial for tomorrow.' More schools in central and southern New Mexico are set to join the program this fall, and Deming High School will add the program to its after-school curriculum. LPGA returning to Mexico for first time in 8 years and doing so in historic fashion

The LPGA is back in action this week and holding its final event prior to next week's U.S. Women's Open Championship. While Erin Hills will be all the rage this week, what is happening right now is worth mentioning. We will see the LPGA playing at the 2025 MEXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. This marks the LPGA's first trip to Mexico after eight years away and interestingly the event is the first and only that has the brand 'MEXICO' as the title sponsor. Advertisement Notables in the field will include past champions Sei Young Kim, Carlota Ciganda and Christina Kim. Charley Hull will also be in attendance. Clearly though the vent will be highlighted by the eight Mexican golfers in play: Maria Balcazar Maria Fassi Isabella Fierro Fernanda Lira Gaby Lopez Andrea Ostos Carolina Rotzinger Clarisa Temelo Also in the field will be Sophia Popov who is coming off of an incredible Mother's Day win in Arizona on the Epson Tour. Mayakoba may sound familiar if you are a golf fan as the World Wide Technology Championship was long held at El Camaleón where this event will take place. LIV golf also held events on site in both 2023 and 2024. The tournament can be seen on Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday (10am-12pm CT) as well as Saturday (2-5pm CT). Thursday and Friday have action after those windows on NBC Digital while Sunday's final moments can be seen on CBS and Paramount+.

LPGA becomes third major golf circuit to tackle El Camaleon at Playa del Carmen

El Camaleon Golf Course Mayakoba was the first official venue to host a PGA Tour event outside of the United States and Canada, but it's 16-year run as a PGA Tour stop ended in November 2022. The tournament had a few names over that stretch but the World Wide Technology Championship moved to Tiger Woods' golf course in Cabos San Lucas, El Cardonal at Diamante, at the same time that El Camaleon decided to welcome LIV Golf. In 2023 and 2024, LIV hosted events at El Camaleon but then that circuit moved on to a different Mexican golf course, Club de Golf Chapultepec, which is another former home for the PGA Tour. Rickie Fowler plays his second shot on the seventh hole at the 2017 OHL Classic at El Camaleon Golf Course Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Here in 2025, it's the LPGA's turn to take up tournament residence in Playa del Carmen, about 35 miles south of Cancun on the eastern side of Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula. Advertisement It's the first LPGA event in the country since 2017. Many of the world's best women's golfers will use the event as final prep for the 2025 U.S. Women's Open. While doing so, they'll have to navigate one of the more unique features to be found anywhere in competitive golf. El Camaleon is famous for a cave bunker in the fairway You'll hear the term cave bunker or perhaps sinkhole, but that large opening in the fairway at El Camaleon is called a cenote (pronounced see-NOTE-ay), and it is indeed a giant natural sink hole. These are mostly found on the Yucatan Peninsula. Course designer Greg Norman, who designed the layout and opened it in 2004, built the golf course with these cenotes in mind. How does the El Camaleon Golf Course rank? According to the 2025 Golfweek's Best: Top 50 courses in Mexico, Caribbean, Atlantic islands, Central America, El Camaleon Golf Course at Mayakoba ranks 24th. Who's in the field for the LPGA's Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba? There are 136 golfers in the field, headlined by Sei Young Kim, Linn Grant, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire, Gaby Lopez, Ruixun Liu, In Gee Chun, Sophia Popov, Yani Tseng and Albane Valenzuela. New title sponsor of LPGA Mayakoba event has signed on According to a news release: This is the first and only sporting event in Mexico that will have the MEXICO brand as title sponsor. MEXICO Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba will be the official name of the event, which will be held May 22-25 at the emblematic El Camaleón course at Mayakoba. In recent days, Gustavo Santoscoy Arriaga, Chairman of GS Sports Management, met with Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism of the Federal Government, and with Bernardo Cueto, Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, to discuss the organization of the event and reached a title sponsorship agreement. The MEXICO brand is based on the cultural and touristic richness that positions Mexico as a country of great wealth that has a lot to offer to national and international tourists. Trump on X, a social media platform. What's happened On March 15, invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, the U.S. sent about 260 immigrants — mostly Venezuelans — to El Salvador's largest prison. Among them was Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego García, a Salvadoran, who the administration has admitted was mistakenly deported, but has refused to secure his return in defiance of court rulings. On Thursday, a Trump-appointed judge ruled that the administration had '[exceeded] the scope' of the Alien Enemies Act. Feb. 28 What he said '[Zelensky] disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office.' Trump on Truth Social What's happened Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky clashed at the White House, had something of a rapprochement in a meeting between the two at the Vatican on April 26, followed by the signing of a deal to jointly develop Ukraine's rare mineral reserves.
