Toyota Fortuner To Face Two New Competitors: MG Majestor, Volkswagen Tayron
The Toyota Fortuner, a key player in India's full-size SUV market, is about to face new competition. MG Motor India and Volkswagen are preparing to launch two new SUVs, the MG Majestor and the Volkswagen Tayron specifically designed to challenge the Fortuner's dominance. MG Majestor The MG Majestor was revealed at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo and is an upgraded version of its flagship SUV, the draws design inspiration from the international Maxus D90, featuring a striking front fascia with a large blacked-out grille, vertically stacked LED headlights, and sleek LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The SUV also includes 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and black cladding, while the back has dual exhausts and connected tail lights. An optional 4x4 drivetrain will be available for off-road enthusiasts. Inside, the SUV is anticipated to offer a 12.3-inch freestanding infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features. Volkswagen Tayron Volkswagen is set to introduce the Tayron, a 7-seater SUV that will sit above the Tiguan R-Line in its lineup. The Tayron has been undergoing testing in India and boasts design features similar to it's 5-seater sibling, including connected LED tail lights and projector LED headlights. It differentiates itself with a longer wheelbase, which enables the addition of a third row of seats. Volkswagen Tayron Expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 204 hp, the Tayron will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen plans to manufacture the Tayron locally, aiming for a launch in late 2025.

The prices for the Majestor are expected to begin at ₹45 lakh, ex-showroom. The MG Majestor is the upcoming internal combustion engine flagship offering from JSW MG Motor India. The SUV was first showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo. Now though, the seven seater SUV was spotted undisguised being tested on Indian roads. The MG Majestor will sit above the MG Gloster. MG Majestor is based on the maxus D90 SUV that is on sale in a few global markets. It has a huge front grille in the front that is finished in gloss black. There is a split-headlamp design where the LED Daytime Running Lamp is positioned above and the main headlamp cluster sits vertically in the bumper. On the sides, there are 19-inch alloy wheels with a diamond-cut finish. Other notable design elements are dual exhaust tips, connected tail lamps with wraparound design and chunky skid plates. But it is expected to use the same engine as the Gloster. So, it will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel that produces 158.7 bhp and 373.5 Nm maximum torque. There is also a twin-turbo diesel engine that produces 212.5 bhp and 478.5 Nm of maximum torque. The gearbox on duty is an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The power can be transferred to the rear wheels or all wheels using a 4x4 system. MG Majestor: Features As expected with any other JSW MG Motor India vehicle, the Majestor comes loaded with features. It gets a free-standing 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a new all-digital instrument cluster for the driver that shows all the information and gets customization modes.
