The council also approved an amendment to the national credit framework (NCF), which will require students to earn 20 credits every semester, totaling 200 credits by the end of their postgraduate degree. This is a shift from the previous system where the credit system did not specify a uniform requirement for each semester. The changes are aligned with the UGC's 2025 regulations and aim to streamline academic standards across higher education institutions.
The meeting also saw approval of the proposal allowing students with science background to pursue MA/MSc. geography. Earlier, it was necessary for candidates to have geography and topogradhy as subjects in undergraduate for elligibility to this course.
Devendra Kumar Singh, NGPC principal, said, "The introduction of MSc geoinformatics and MJMC along with the amendments to the credit system, reflects our commitment to providing students with relevant, future-oriented education."
