Radhapuram Assembly segment gets nine more part-time ration shops

The Radhapuram Assembly segment has sanctioned nine more part-time ration shops. According to Radhapuram MLA and Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, 35 new ration shops have been established in his constituency over the past four years. Considering the genuine demand for more shops, the MLA had submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Cooperation K.R. Periya Karuppan and the Minister for Food and Consumer Protection R. Sakkarapani seeking sanctioning of 30-odd new ration shops in his constituency to ensure the supply of essential commodities to the cardholders through the fair price shops in their area itself. Subsequently, 13 shops were sanctioned in the first phase, which were opened on April 24 last, and the government has given permission for opening nine more part-time ration shops in many places. These ration shops will come up at Nambipathu (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), Puthukkudiyiruppu in Achampadu village panchayat (Wednesday), Aachchiyoor in Anaikulam panchayat (Thursday), Kulaththukudiyiruppu in Valliyoor town panchayat (Friday), Pullamangalam in Irukkanthurai panchayat (Thursday), Senaarkulam (Saturday), Ponnaarkulam (Friday), Kalvilai in Karisuttrupudhur panchayat (Friday) and Sooduyarnthaanvilai (Saturday). 'We've built permanent buildings in the past four years for all 48 new ration shops from the MLA Constituency Development Fund. Hence, the nine new ration shops will also get buildings very soon once the officials identify the accessible place,' Mr. Appavu told 'The Hindu' on Monday.
