Young athletes participate in local MLB Pitch Hit and Run competition
COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) — About 60 kids participated in the MLB Pitch Hit and Run competition at Athletix Columbiana on Sunday.
The program is a free event that provides kids aged 7 to 14 with an opportunity to showcase their baseball or softball skills.
They were tested on their battling, throwing and speed.
It was also a great chance for young athletes to work on fine-tuning their skills as the Little League season is just underway.
'Gives them exposure to something maybe they wouldn't have exposure to normally and just give them a nice experience. Maybe they're here meeting some new friends, hanging out with some kids on their team, just things like that. Just give them a new opportunity and an experience they wouldn't normally have,' said Rachel Wardle, the Athletix co-owner.
The best from Sunday have the chance to go to the Team Championship event at an MLB stadium. Top scores qualify for an all-expense-paid trip for two to compete at Finals, which is hosted at the World Series.
