📚 Unique milestones to watch out for this weekend in MLS

The 2025 MLS season rolls on this weekend after some scintillating midweek action. Matchday 13 served up more of the same from some of the biggest names and top sides in the league to set the primer on more pending action in a few days' time capable of shifting quite a few narratives. Advertisement With that in mind, here are some of the unique milestones to watch out for this weekend across all the Matchday 14 action from coast to coast as MLS Rival Week continues. Orlando roaring toward a big undefeated run Orlando SC is on a roll of late and a chance to close on a historic club marker takes center stage this weekend when The Lions come to grips with in-state rivals Inter Miami. Should Óscar Pareja's men avoid defeat at Chase Stadium, Orlando will extend their current unbeaten run to eleven after their 3-1 win against Charlotte on Wednesday night, putting them one away from their club-record 12-match unbeaten run set back in 2020. 📸 via MLS Communications Rusnák adding to his MLS CV Despite a new-look attack at Seattle, key man Albert Rusnák remains everpresent for headmaster Brian Schmetzer, banking five goals and three assists across the 2025 MLS season thus far. Advertisement The Slovakian international comes into the weekend with a chance to etch his name deeper into club lore as well. Should he bag a brace against Portland, Rusnák would become just the second player in league history to hit at least 25 goals and 25 assists for multiple clubs and take up a position alongside MLS legend Steve Ralston in the process. 📸 via MLS Communications Antony proving his importance for Portland As one of the leading goal-getters across the 2025 MLS season thus far, Phil Neville's Portland Timbers are a force to be reckoned with, and Brazilian forward Antony has played a huge part in their attacking success thus far. Advertisement Though he failed to extend his assist streak to six matches after a 0-0 away draw against Real Salt Lake, Antony has still planted himself on the list of longest assist streaks in the league since 2015, and his seven helpers are second only to San Jose's Cristian Espinoza (8) across the current campaign. 📸 via MLS Communications Arango remains on the boil for San Jose One of the faces of the league and a dynamic forward that few can match, San Jose's Cristian Arango is in the thick of the Golden Boot race after Wednesday, scoring a third-minute opener during the Earthquakes' 3-3 draw against Inter Miami. Advertisement Now sitting on nine goals and just one behind league leader Tai Baribo, Arango would become only the seventh player in league history to bag at least 10 goals in a season for three clubs or more. He would join MLS icons Jeff Cunningham, Dwayne De Rosario, Eddie Johnson, Kei Kamara, Ola Kamara, and CJ Sapong as the other players to achieve the same, and it is worth noting that five of those six players went on to reach the top-20 all-time goalscoring list. 📸 via MLS Communications Rivalry Week remains at center stage After Wednesday's first rivalry clash between St. Louis City and Sporting KC, the upcoming weekend fixture list is littered with bitter clashes across the country. Advertisement Below is a reminder of who is set to lock horns, and some context surrounding each fixture given the current MLS landscape this season. 📸 via MLS Communications Canadian Classique (CF Montréal vs. Toronto FC): It's 15th vs 14th when Montréal hosts Toronto on Saturday, but a chance for L'Impact to pull level on points with The Reds, as well as bragging rights, could be a tasty incentive. Hudson River Derby (New York City FC vs. New York Red Bulls): 9th hosts 8th here, and with both New York clubs level on points in the East, this could get entertaining and ugly on the pitch. Hell is Real (Columbus Crew vs. FC Cincinnati): After climbing into the top spot in the East as well as the Supporters' Shield, Cincinnati faces the task of humbling in-state rivals Columbus away from home and the prospect of falling off their perch after full-time. Texas Derby (FC Dallas vs. Houston Dynamo FC): With both sides in with a chance of climbing into the top-nine positions in the West, a derby clash between Dallas and Houston should offer up plenty of talking points. Rocky Mountain Cup (Colorado Rapids vs. Real Salt Lake): Sitting 9th and hopeful of a deeper run up the Western table, Colorado welcomes RSL to their home patch, with the away side capable of usurping the Rapids should they win. Cascadia Cup (Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders FC): After suffering a thrashing at the hands of LAFC, Seattle will look to bounce back against fierce rivals Portland, but the Timbers will be motivated by a chance to possibly move into second in the West. Inter Miami CF vs. in-state rival Orlando City SC: Orlando's undefeated run will be put to the test against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, with both sides capable of moving into fourth in the East should they bag three points. El Tráfico (LA Galaxy vs. LAFC): Arguably the top rival across the entire league, another installment of El Tráfico offers bottom-dwelling LA Galaxy a chance to prove spoiler against an LAFC outfit that is beginning to cook with some gas. 📸 Editorial Photo Credit: © Nathan Ray Seebeck | 2025 May 14-Imagn Images

📊 Unique milestones to watch out for this weekend in MLS

📊 Unique milestones to watch out for this weekend in MLS MLS is back for more action this weekend, and that means plenty of milestones can be hit around the league. Let's take a look at some of the most impressive. Charlotte chase historic home-field advantage Charlotte have been putting on a show all season in front of their home fans in the Queen City. With a record-start in terms of points, they can also make MLS history against the Revolution this weekend. Advertisement With a win over New England, Charlotte would become just the ninth team in the post-shootout era to win at least nine consecutive home matches and the first since FC Cincinnati in 2023. 📸 MLS Communications Andre Blake on pace to cement himself in MLS annals Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake is one of the league's best, and his statistical legacy is beginning to build itself. With a clean sheet against D.C. United on Saturday, Blake would become the second fastest goalkeeper to reach 80 career clean sheets in MLS history, trailing only Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan. 📸 MLS Communications Quinn Sullivan showing why he is one of the league's top young talents We'll stick with the Union, but we turn our attention to midfield starlet Quinn Sullivan. The 21-year-old has been on fire this season with five goal contributions in nine matches, and he is on pace to turn that haul into some Philly history. Advertisement With his next goal contribution, Sullivan will pass Jack McInerney for the most goal contributions by a Union player prior to turning 22 years old. 📸 MLS Communications Evander putting up historically efficient numbers Cincinnati attacker Evander has firmly cemented himself as an MVP candidate in MLS these days after a superb two seasons in Portland. But in Cincinnati so far this season, he is showing why he is so deadly with the ball ay his feet. Since the start of the 2024 season, only Evander (41 goal contributions) and Inter Miami's Lionel Messi (41) have accumulated more than 40 goal contributions, with the duo sitting five contributions ahead of the next closest players. The more deeper numbers show just how efficient he has been in attack. 📸 MLS Communications

📊 Five memorable stats from the opening weekend of MLS

It was a thoroughly entertaining weekend of MLS action to kick off the 2025 season, and before we move on to looking ahead to matchday two, let's take a look at some of most unique and memorable stats from the weekend that was. For anybody who tuned into the matches on Saturday and Sunday over the weekend, they will have noticed the ball hitting the back of the net with unrelenting frequency. Eight different games saw four or more goals scored, and we had two separate six-goal thrillers. When you tune into MLS, you will be entertained. What does that say about the defensive units though? MLS is Back: The 46 goals scored across the league this weekend were the most in an @MLS opening week in league history, breaking the previous record of 41 scored in 2019. — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) February 24, 2025 Diego Chara is one of the all-time great MLS midfielders, and he will rightly go down as a legend in Portland. The Colombian took the pitch for the 400th time as a Timber in the side's 4-1 loss at home to the Whitecaps on Sunday, but the positive silver lining for the Portland faithful is that he made history on the night. With his start against the Whitecaps on Sunday, @TimbersFC midfielder Diego Chara became the first player in MLS history to play in 400 regular season games with a single club. — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) February 23, 2025 Sticking with the events in the Rose City, Vancouver's winter signing of winger Jayden Nelson paid off handsomely as he made his MLS debut on Sunday. The Canadian ripped the Portland rearguard to shreds with ease, and landed himself a spot in the record-books as well. With three assists and a goal in his @WhitecapsFC debut, 22-year-old Jayden Nelson became the third player in MLS history to record four goal contributions in his team debut, joining Brian Ching (four goals) and Dwyane De Rosario (four assists) for the Dynamo on April 2, 2006. — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) February 23, 2025 While we're all focusing on the ball hitting the back of the net, ageless wonders in midfield, and unforgettable debuts, Emiro Garcés was simply on his bike. The LA Galaxy defender hit the record books Sunday evening when he tracked back to cut out a San Diego counterattack at lightning-speed. Don't blink! Garcés' 70-plus yard sprint in second-half stoppage resulted in the top speed recorded since the stat was tracked, as @TaylorTwellman highlighted the Colombian's effort during the moment on Sunday Night Soccer presented by Continental Tire. — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) February 26, 2025 MLS is a truly diverse league, as a major chunk of the world's nations are represented by players and staff alike. But on matchday one, it was African players who left their mark on the record-books, and the scoresheet. ⚽️A total of six goals were scored by five African players representing five countries on MD1. 2025 projects to have MLS players from nearly 20 African countries, including Emmanuel Latte Lath (Ivory Coast), Kévin Denkey (Togo), Denis Bouanga (Gabon), & Osman Bukari (Ghana). — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) February 25, 2025 📸 Brett Davis-Imagn Images
