Haley Joel Osment comes to unexpected deal in cocaine and public intoxication arrest that included racist rant

Haley Joel Osment appears to have put a troublesome situation behind him, in reaching a deal to escape jail time in his public intoxication and cocaine possession arrest less than two months ago. The Sixth Sense star, 37, will attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meeting weekly as part of a deal he hammered out with a court in Northern California following his April 8 arrest at the Mammoth Mountain resort. The Oscar-nominee was allowed to enter a yearlong diversion program in connection with the case stemming from his arrest at the Mammoth Lakes, California ski destination. The Los Angeles native came to the accord days after authorities with the Mono County District Attorney's office said they had filed misdemeanor charges against the actor in connection with the incident. Officials with the District Attorney's office were not pleased with the actor being allowed to attend a diversion program since he previously got a DUI in 2006 in Los Angeles. Authorities with the office, in their objection, also noted that the actor was caught on camera using racial epithets while he was taken into custody, sources told People. Osment had an arraignment slated to July 7, which will be scuttled now that a deal has been worked out. Osment was an overnight child star sensation as the last millennium drew to a close, with his jarring portrayal of Cole Sear opposite Bruce Willis in M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. The character, a child with the ability to communicate with the departed, was etched into p op culture lore with the iconic line from the film, 'I see dead people.' The motion picture - which also featured Toni Collette, Olivia Williams, Trevor Morgan and Donnie Wahlberg - was a success at the box office and with critics. It garnered six Oscar nominations in 2000, including Best Director for Shyamalan and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Osment. The child star lost out on the honors to the legendary Michael Caine for The Cider House Rules, Other nominees Magnolia's Tom Cruise, The Talented Mr. Ripley's Jude Law and The Green Mile's Michael Clarke Duncan. Other films Osment has been featured in include the 1994 megahit Forrest Gump as Forrest Junior, 2000s Pay It Forward and the 2001 Steven Spielberg movie A.I. The charismatic actor has also carved out his presence on the small screen with a number of recurring roles on shows such as Teachers, Comedy Bang! Bang and The Kominsky Method.

Warner Bros. dates Hunt for Gollum, Evil Dead, & M. Night Shyamalan movie

As Tom Cruise loves to say, 'See you at the movies.' Warner Bros. has announced the release dates for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the next Evil Dead installment, and M. Night Shyamalan's next mystery. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema will release The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum on December 17, 2027. Andy Serkis will direct and star as Gollum, the slimy creature he originated in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens — the Oscar-winning team behind 2003's Return of the King — will produce The Hunt for Gollum with Zane Weiner. Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou will pen the screenplay for The Hunt for Gollum. Recommended Videos The Lord of the Rings franchise took a shot at anime with 2024's The War of the Rohirrim. The gamble did not work, as Rohirrim received negative reviews and earned $20.5 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. From Gollum to the Deadites, the next installment in the Evil Dead franchise will be released on July 24, 2026. Souheila Yacoub, who played Shishakli in Dune: Part Two, will star in the Evil Dead sequel. Sébastien Vaniček will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Florent Bernard. Series creator Sam Raimi will produce with longtime Evil Dead producer Rob Tapert. New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures will co-finance the pic. Another Evil Dead movie should not come as a surprise after the overwhelming success of 2023's Evil Dead Rise. The fifth installment in the franchise became a box office smash, grossing $147 million worldwide on a budget of less than $20 million. After tackling a psychological thriller, M. Night Shyamalan will write and direct the supernatural love story Remain. Jake Gyllenhaal, Phoebe Dynevor, and Ashley Walters will star. Shyamalan will produce with Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and Theresa Park. Remain follows Tate Donovan, a New York architect who travels to Cape Cod to design his friend's house after being discharged from a psychiatric facility. Struggling to cope with his sister's death, Donovan meets Wren, a young woman who will change his world. Remain is based on an original story by Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks. (Yes, the same Nicholas Sparks behind romance novels like The Notebook and A Walk to Remember.) Shyamalan and Sparks are independently working on the screenplay and the book, respectively. The movie and novel will follow the same characters and plot. Sparks' novel hits stores on October 7, 2025. Shyamalan's movie arrives in theaters one year later on October 23, 2026.

The Next Lord of the Rings Movie Finally Has a Release Date

Warner Bros. is giving the world a very nice Christmas present in 2027: our Precious. The studio just announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is coming to theaters December 17, 2027. Andy Serkis directs and stars, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh produce, and Philippa Boyens produces and co-writes with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. So yes, the gang behind the classic Middle-earth film series is basically all back. The studio also made it official that a new Evil Dead movie is on the way. Souheila Yacoub will star and it'll hit theaters next summer, on July 24, 2026. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are among the film's producers, and it's rumored to be called Evil Dead Burn. Then, the next film from M. Night Shyamalan, Remain, based on a story he created with Nicholas Sparks, will open on October 23, 2026. Jake Gyllenhaal stars and the book version comes out October 7 of this year. Release dates are always fun because it's the public way of saying, 'This movie is happening.' However, there are still some interesting questions surrounding all these films. For The Hunt for Gollum, we of course know Serkis will return as Gollum. But what about the supporting cast? A story about searching for the Ring Bearer would likely include many crucial characters such as Aragorn and Gandalf and while actors Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen have said they'd be interested, nothing is official yet. If they are part of the story and can't come back, will you care if the roles are recast? But also, that December release date is not just a nice vote of confidence in the film, but a continuing tradition. The original Rings films opened on December 19, 18, and 17 in their respective years so this really is, in a way, a return of the king. Disney also has that December 17, 2027 date earmarked for an untitled Star Wars movie, but Warner Bros. putting Lord of the Rings on that date surely doesn't make it seem like there will be a Star Wars movie opening against it. It's also curious that the news didn't include that Evil Dead title. Director Sébastien Vaniçek posted about it late last year, so is that no longer the case? Finally, will any among us dare to read the novelization of M. Night Shyamalan's latest before it hits theaters a year later? Surely Nicholas Sparks fans will but, you have to imagine, Shyamalan fans will wait to see his take on the story. Lots to discuss but, in the end, there are even more exciting genre movies coming in the next few years. What do you think?
