Officials seeking owner of emaciated poodle found on the side of highway in Lawrence
MSPCA Law Enforcement is seeking the public's help finding the owner of an emaciated poodle they located on the side of the highway on Tuesday. Willie, a young Poodle-mix, was brought to Nevins Farm in Methuen after being found on Route 495 in Lawrence, according to authorities. 'Willie was matted and emaciated when he was brought into the adoption center,' said MSPCA Law Enforcement Director Chris Schindler. 'He was initially examined by a clinic veterinarian in Methuen, and it was immediately clear that he needed advanced treatment, so a staff member drove him to Angell [Animal Medical Center in Boston], where he's been receiving around-the-clock care since.' Willie's prognosis was not immediately clear, but medical staff said he was severely dehydrated and appeared to have neurological problems. Man facing animal cruelty charges after nearly 100 animals found dead, held without bail
A Marlborough man facing animal cruelty charges after nearly 100 animals found dead on a rented Sturbridge property, is being held without bail according to officials. Andrew Sebastiano was found dangerous by a judge during an April 1st hearing and held without bail, according to a release issued by MSPCA Law Enforcement. Andrew Sebastiano was charged with 96 counts of animal cruelty, subsequent offense, and 96 charges of animal cruelty by custodian, subsequent offense. According to MSPCA Law Enforcement, 96 dead animals, including chickens, geese, pigs, ducks, and rabbits, were discovered at a property Sebastiano was renting in Sturbridge on March 19. Pictures of the property show makeshift pens and cages in a wooded Law Enforcement Director, Chris Schindler commended the judge's decision in holding Sebastiano without bail. 'Animal cruelty should be a factor in determining the risks an individual poses to the community, and this decision reflects that,' Schindler said. As a part of the investigation into this case, a roughly eight-month-old Australian cattle dog named 'Foxy' was seized on March 25th from Sebastiano. On April 1, Foxy was surrendered to MSPCA-Angell, according to is now in the process of getting ready to be adopted. The team at MSPCA-Angell will do a spay surgery, as well as have Foxy work with a behavior team, according to Schindler. Marlborough man arraigned after nearly 100 dead animals found on property
STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Marlborough man has been arraigned on animal cruelty charges after 96 dead animals were found on a property he was renting in Sturbridge. The Sturbridge Police Department and MSPCA Law Enforcement announced in a joint press release that Andrew Sebastiano of Marlborough was arrested on Tuesday following a search of his property on March 19. Mass. man arrested in Connecticut in connection with 2024 police pursuit During the investigation, law enforcement found that Sebastiano had left the property in February. The dead animals that were discovered included chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, and rabbits. One living dog was also seized from the property on Tuesday and is now in the care of MSPCA-Angell, which will release further information on the dog's condition at a later date. MSPCA Law Enforcement said that Sebastiano had been previously arrested on animal cruelty charges in 2021 and was sentenced to probation. 'This is an extremely disturbing case of animal cruelty, none like I have seen in my career,' said Sturbridge Police Chief Earl Dessert. 'The sheer number of animals that suffered and perished is truly heartbreaking. We are grateful for our strong partnership with MSPCA Law Enforcement, whose expertise was invaluable in this investigation. I also commend my officers who worked tirelessly on this investigation from the onset to make sure the individual involved was arrested and brought to justice.' Sebastiano was arraigned in Dudley District Court on Wednesday on 96 charges of animal cruelty, subsequent offense, and 96 charges of animal cruelty by custodian, subsequent offense. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for April 1. 'We're grateful to Sturbridge Police for collaborating with us on this and helping find the suspect,' said MSPCA Law Enforcement Director, Chris Schindler. 'This was a devastating scene, and we wish that we had been able to intercede in the weeks before these animals perished, but, unfortunately, the call came too late.' MSPCA said that Beacon Hill has proposed that those convicted of animal cruelty crimes should be banned from owning an animal for at least five years.
