KUCHING (May 9): Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals (MSWCP) have signed a letter of understanding (LoU) on the strategic implementation of maggot therapy in wound management across Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said this treatment method is grounded in science, cost-effective, and proven to accelerate healing, especially in chronic diabetic wounds.
'Sarawak will be among the first in the region to implement this approach in a systematic and regulated manner, with the support, collaboration, and expert guidance from the educators and researchers at the Institute for Medical Research (IMR),' he said in a speech read by Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng at the 3rd D-Foot International Wound Conference 2025 here today.
