Tennessee Reacts To Exciting Peyton Manning News

Tennessee Reacts To Exciting Peyton Manning News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no doubt that throughout his 18-year career in the NFL (1998-2015), former quarterback Peyton Manning established himself as one of the best players in league history. Advertisement Of course, since retiring, he's already earned several different honors, including being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and having his jersey retired by the Indianapolis Colts, but on Wednesday, he earned another. ESPN announced he was one of three quarterbacks selected, along with Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, for their "NFL All Quarter Century team," which picked 53 of the best players in the league based on production since 2000. That caught the attention of the Tennessee Volunteers, where he spent his collegiate years, who took to social media with their post to congratulate the legendary quarterback. There's no doubt that Manning is worthy of this achievement, because from 2000-2015, he completed 5,468-of-8,272 passes for 64,066 yards, 487 touchdowns, 208 interceptions and a 98.6 passer rating. Advertisement In that time, he was also named to 13 Pro Bowls, earned First-Team All-Pro honors seven times, won five MVP Awards (most in NFL history), Offensive Player of the Year twice and two Super Bowls (one with the Denver Broncos and one with the Colts) Though maybe none of this success would have been possible if not for the four years with Tennessee, where he finished within the top 10 of Heisman Trophy voting three times and earned All-America honors in his senior season. Super Series: The five games that matter for the Buffalo Bills in 2025

For the Buffalo Bills, five games matter more than the rest. They aren't within the AFC East. They have nothing to do with celebrating the final season at old Rich Stadium. Spread evenly throughout the Bills' 2025 regular season is the Super Series, five gargantuan opponents in an otherwise dull schedule. Advertisement The Super Series features: The past three Lombardi Trophy winners; two coach/quarterback combos that eliminated Buffalo each of the past four postseasons; winners of the six MVP Awards before Josh Allen — if Aaron Rodgers signs where expected; four non-division enemies Buffalo has rematched against in the playoffs seven times over the past five years. The Super Series is where the Bills demonstrate to the world whether they're worthy title contenders: These are the supercharged rivalries that emerge for great teams, for perennial contenders. 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄‼️ | #BillsMafia — Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) May 15, 2025 Although the Bills can't treat the AFC East as an afterthought, their mission is bigger than just another division crown. They've been there, done that without the ultimate prize. The Bills have won the AFC East five straight seasons, and each of their counterparts is in a state of flux. The New York Jets and New England Patriots have new coaches. The Jets also have a new quarterback. The Miami Dolphins are the most stable AFC East club, and their star players keep lashing out against the organization. Granted, the Bengals and Steelers aren't as fearsome as the other Super Series opponents, but their coaches and quarterbacks (again, if Rodgers signs in Pittsburgh) have reached the Super Bowl. Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow was the NFL's best passer last year and, when he remains upright, is a legitimate MVP candidate. You can fathom all six quarterbacks in this Super Series making the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Four of the five games happen in Highmark Stadium, where the Bills own an NFL-best 39-11 home record since 2019. NFL schedulers reinforced the bookends for the stadium's farewell. It opens on Sunday night against the Ravens, another showdown between the two most recent MVPs. Buffalo split with Baltimore last year, each winning at home. Baltimore was favored by a point in the playoff rematch, but Buffalo escaped thanks to tight end Mark Andrews' fumbled catch-and-run and dropped two-point conversion. Advertisement Smack dab in the middle of the season, two weeks after Buffalo's bye, is the annual heavyweight matchup against Kansas City. Bills Mafia knows too well September through December doesn't mean much when you can't beat the Chiefs in the tournament. The Bills are 4-1 against them in the regular season since Allen became the quarterback and 0-4 in the playoffs, but that won't matter in the heat of the Week 9 moment. Highmark Stadium will froth over. The Bills might not have anything to play for Week 18 against the Jets, but tremors will reverberate through the ballpark a week earlier for the potential Super Bowl preview against the defending champs – plus the reigning season MVP versus reigning Super Bowl MVP. Philadelphia captured everyone's imagination with its Super Bowl beatdown of Kansas City and now is the NFL's organizational measuring stick. We'll never know how well Buffalo would have fared against Philly in the grand finale — the Bills' offensive line was far superior to the Chiefs', and Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio wouldn't have had the luxury of dominating up front without a blitz — but what unfolds three days after Christmas will be fascinating to watch. The last time they met, the Bills lost a rainy, overtime heartbreaker at Lincoln Financial Field. Allen and Jalen Hurts combined for nine total touchdowns in the first NFL game that involved both quarterbacks passing and rushing for at least two TDs apiece. Gobs of blown officiating calls slammed the Bills repeatedly. Aside from the Super Series, the schedule is fairly cushy. Based on last year's records, Buffalo's opponents owned a combined .467 win percentage. Just eight clubs have lower schedule strengths, and none were good enough to make the playoffs. The Bills are, by far, the best team with the softest schedule, and it looks like they have a glorious opportunity to build a great record through October against a slew of new coaching systems and quarterback swap-outs. AFC East teams have nine home games and eight away this year. Just two of the Bills' road games are with playoff teams, and they occur back-to-back: the Houston Texans on Thursday night in Week 12 and the Steelers 10 days later. Mike Tomlin is the only road coach to have won a Super Bowl, but that was 17 years ago; the Steelers haven't won a playoff game in nine years. Advertisement Then there is Buffalo's light mileage. Houston is the lone trip outside the Eastern time zone and, for those Bills fans who travel, the only destination among the eight road games that usually requires a connecting flight. The NFL South locales, Charlotte and Atlanta, are high-traffic hubs. AFC North foes Cleveland and Pittsburgh are casual drives. The Bills avoided four potential international dates through road games with the Jets and Browns (London), Steelers (Dublin) and Dolphins (Madrid). Also beneficial is that coveted Sunday rhythm can commence with six games left in the regular season, meaning all the off-day and primetime games will be out of the way by Week 13 and the Bills can settle into a routine players love. Last year, the Bills played their last 14 games, including playoffs, on Sundays. They went 11-3, with starters rested for the Week 18 loss to the Patriots. The Bills' 2025 calendar presents the chance to amass a lopsided record that finally earns them the No. 1 seed, the first-round playoff bye and home-field advantage throughout the tournament. Within that schedule is the Super Series, and how the Bills perform in those games will be the truest indication of whether they have what it takes.

Inside Tom Brady's family life and Irish connections ahead of Late Late Show

NFL legend Tom Brady will make a surprise appearance on Friday's Late Late Show and will be in the studio with Patrick Kielty for a live interview. Brady hung up the cleats a couple of years ago after an unrivalled career in which he won seven Super Bowls and three MVP Awards. The retired quarterback called it a day in 2022 after his third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spent the bulk of his playing days with the New England Patriots. Here is all you need to know about Tom Brady. Tom Brady is from San Mateo, California and was born on August 3, 1977. He turns 48 later this year. Brady had a fairytale career. Drafted in the 6th round of the NFL Draft, Brady defied all odds to become an American Football legend. Relying on an injury to highly thought of Drew Bledsoe to get his chance, Brady guided the Patriots to a Super Bowl in his first season as a regular starter in the 2001/22 season. The fairytale would continue throughout the 2000s with the Quarterback battling it out with the likes of Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger to be kind of the AFC and won a further two Championships in 2004 and 2005. In total, Brady would spend 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, winning six Super Bowl titles while making a further three appearances during that time. Aged 43, Brady won his seventh and final Super Bowl ring in his debut season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also won the much-coveted MVP Award three times. Tom Brady has three children. His eldest son, Jack, was born during a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan, while his second-born, Benjamin, and daughter, Vivian, arrived during his marriage with model Gisele Bundchen. Brady dated actress Moynahan between 2004 and 2006, and he tied the knot with model Gisele Bundchen in 2009 before ending their marriage in 2022. Although Tom Brady's net worth is not known, he is estimated to be worth between $300m and $600m Brady signed a 10-year deal to become Fox Sports' lead color commentator and completed his first season in the booth. It is reported he will earn $375m over the course of his contract. Brady earned over $300m in career earnings during his time in the NFL and has ownership stakes with the Las Vegas Raiders and Birmingham FC. Brady's father's side of the family has ancestors from Miltown, Cavan, while his mother's ancestors are from Cork and left during the Famine. Brady has previously visited the country with his family to explore his ancestral roots and has also commented publicly that he has played golf in the Emerald Isle.

Nikola Jokić is putting up record numbers. So why is he unlikely to be NBA MVP?

On Sunday afternoon, two of the best teams in the NBA's Western Conference faced off on national television. When it was over, the Oklahoma City Thunder had routed the Denver Nuggets 127-103, pulling away in the fourth quarter thanks to a barrage from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had 40 points on the day. But because it was the NBA, the game was less about the teams and more about the stars at the center of the action – who just so happen to be the league's top two MVP candidates. Denver's Nikola Jokić has been named NBA MVP three times in the past four years. That's rarefied air. Only three men – Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird – have won the award three times in a row. And only a small number of guys, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and LeBron James, have won it three out of four years. The year Jokić didn't win it during his streak, he lost a close vote to Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid in an especially heated contest that included accusations of racism. But more than racially charged conversations, questions of history and voter fatigue are central when it comes to NBA accolades. Not only do voters take into account the current season but they also consider the bigger picture of league history. And that is exactly what they will be doing again this year when selecting between the league's top two candidates, Jokić and Gilgeous-Alexander. These things don't take place in a vacuum. When Embiid won the MVP Award for the 2022-23 season, some voters, whether they would admit it or not, didn't want to make Jokić the fourth player in NBA history to earn three MVP Awards in a row. He was good, but as good as Bird, Wilt and Russell? Did the voters want to say that with their vote, too? There was even speculation that Jokić played a little below his standard down the stretch that season so as not to invite comparison to those three hallowed players. Never mind that Jokić's team won the NBA title that season. This year, in ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps' popular straw pole, the top two MVP finishers from likely voters were Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić, with the Canadian earning the top spot. Maybe it's because Jokić is a three time winner while the 26-year-old Gilgeous-Alexander is the new kid on the block. Not only are the Thunder comfortably in first place in the West, he's the main reason why. He's also leading the league in scoring, and he finished second in MVP voting last year (losing out to Jokić in his highest finish so far). And while there have been several perennial MVP winners in the past, the voters often likes to reward the newcomer. It makes for a better narrative. In 2017, triple-double machine Russell Westbrook kept Steph Curry from winning three in a row. A few years prior, Kevin Durant stopped James from doing the same. That wasn't the first time a player had stopped James getting three is succession: Derrick Rose was the man to do so in 2011. Charles Barkley blocked Michael Jordan from his own personal three-peat in the early 90s – there are plenty more examples throughout NBA history of this happening. In a close race, the fresh face usually gets the nod in the voting over the established incumbent. But that raises the question whether the race should be close this year. As of this writing, as Denver and OKC prepare to meet again on Monday night, Jokić is third in the NBA in rebounding (12.9 per game) and points per game (28.9) and second in assists (10.6). No one in history has ever finished in the top three in all of those categories for a season. Not Jordan, James or Wilt. On the other hand, Gilgeous-Alexander leads the league in scoring (32.8 per game) and his team are 52-11, coming off their beatdown of Denver on Sunday. Wins matter and Gilgeous-Alexander's team are second in the entire NBA in that category, just a game behind the 53-10 Cleveland Cavaliers. The Thunder are also a whopping 12 games ahead of Denver in the standings. And if they keep up that pace, their guard will win his first MVP. It's a lock. Even after Sunday's game, Stephen A Smith declared the race over after he, and the rest of the country, witnessed Gilgeous-Alexander dominate the fourth quarter and balloon his team's margin of victory to more than 20 points, capped off by a beautiful hezzy layup. Jokić defenders will point to his performance just a few days ago when the Serbian big man tallied a never-before-seen 31 points, 21 rebounds and 22 assists in a game over the spiraling Phoenix Suns. How can someone who can put up a stat line like that not be the world's best? Well maybe he is the player you'd choose first to face the proverbial alien invaders, but that doesn't mean he will get the MVP this year. James has long been considered the face of the NBA but he's won the MVP only four times in his decades-long career. As of this writing, Gilgeous-Alexander is a huge betting favorite to win MVP over Jokić in distant second. And unless Gilgeous-Alexander incurs an injury or his team fall off a cliff, he will take home the hardware. Just don't expect him to stay at the top of the heap for long. That's just how it goes.

LeBron James surpasses 50,000 career points, a first in NBA history

LeBron James has made NBA history once again by becoming the first player to surpass 50,000 combined points in the regular season and playoffs. James became the first member of the 50,000-point club with a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the Los Angeles Lakers matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. After entering the league 22 years ago, James scored 41,840 regular-season points and an additional 8,162 in the postseason. He unseated Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the all-time regular-season scoring record (38,387) in 2023. Almost a year later, James became the first player to score more than 40,000 regular-season points. James stands leagues above the rest of the league in terms of career points. The next active player, Kevin Durant, has tallied 35,191 points during the regular season and playoffs. He is one of six Lakers players to rank among the league's top scorers in the regular season and playoffs, including Abdul-Jabbar (No. 2), Karl Malone (No. 3), Kobe Bryant (No. 4), Wilt Chamberlain (No. 7), and Jerry West (No. 8). While his legacy as one of the game's all-time greats is already cemented, the accomplishment is just another in a storied career from the Akron, Ohio native. James has earned four NBA Championships, four MVP Awards and 13 All-NBA First Team selections. He also holds the record for most All-Star Game selections, 21. Along with being the highest scorer in league history, James currently sits amongst the top 10 all-time in: games played (No. 3 with 1,547), assists (No. 4 with 11,481), steals (No. 6 with 2,326), defensive rebounds (No. 7 with 9,845), field goals made (No. 2 with 15,360), three-pointers made (No. 7 with 2,535), free throws made (No. 2 with 8,582). James' first basket came on Oct. 30, 2003, in a game in which he set what was then a rookie record for most points scored in a debut with 25. Since then, he's continued to wow the masses and live up to his many monikers, including "King James" and "The Chosen One." He would remain with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers for the first seven seasons of his career before heading to the Miami Heat, where he earned his first and second NBA Titles. At the end of the 2014 season, James returned home to the Cavs to help them earn the franchise's sole NBA Championship in 2016. After four full seasons in Cleveland, James joined the Purple and Gold in 2018. He became the first player in the history of the NBA to win a title with three different teams when the Lakers topped the Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals. Now in his 22nd season, which is tied for the most in NBA history, James is averaging 24.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.6 assists.
