National Heart Institute implements successful innovative valve implantation techniques

The Minister of Health announced on its official website on Sunday that the National Heart Institute performed four successful pulmonary valve implantations using the MYVAL valve at a cost of one million Egyptian pounds per operation. Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, stated that transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation (TPV) is a modern technique that represents a safe alternative to open-heart surgery. The new valve is inserted via a catheter without the need for a chest incision or cardiac arrest, significantly reducing risks and complications. He added that this technique reduces recovery time, allowing patients to leave the hospital within 24 to 48 hours. It also avoids surgical risks, such as severe bleeding, infection, and long recovery periods, improving life quality for patients who require valve replacement after previous heart surgeries. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hadi, Director of the National Heart Institute, emphasized that the institute adopts the latest technologies to treat heart patients using the best available medical methods. A distinguished medical team headed by Dr Rania Diaa El-Din Abu Shoka, Head of the Congenital Catheterization Unit at the Heart Institute, and team members Dr Ahmed El-Sherbiny, Dr Mai Mohamed Saber, Dr Ahmed Alaa Hamed, and the Heart Institute's catheterization team stand behind the achievement. International expert Dr Shivakumar collaborated fruitfully with the team on the operations through his valuable scientific and technical contributions, which helped achieve these impressive results. The Institute's Director sincerely thanked everyone who contributed to the success of these delicate medical interventions, most notably the "Loyalty to Egypt" Foundation, which covered the full cost of valves for four patients during the month of Ramadan at a cost of approximately one million Egyptian pounds per patient.
