According to the official circular by the DoE, the campaign will run from July 2025 to March 2026 and will involve government, government-aided, and private schools under the Directorate's purview. According to the circular, schools are directed to conduct monthly activities. The campaign kicks off in July with essay writing on the importance of a clean Yamuna. In August, drawing and painting competitions will be held, followed by speeches, debates, and skits on water conservation and pollution in September. October will feature Yamuna pledge drives and awareness walks. Additionally, cultural programs related to the Yamuna will be included in annual school functions. The initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of environmental responsibility among students while supporting ongoing conservation efforts. 11th Humanity Olympiad In Delhi Meanwhile, the Delhi government is set to conduct the 11th Humanity Olympiad, along with the Spiritual Eloquence Oratory Contest and the Spiritual Echoes Poetry Recitation Contest, across all government schools in the national capital, as reported by PTI. According to the official statement, these initiatives aim to foster human values and moral development among students from classes 5 to 12. The 11th Humanity Olympiad is an innovative multiple-choice examination focused on moral education. It encourages students to reflect on core human values through structured questions and learning modules, it read. The Directorate of Education has instructed all Heads of Government Schools under the Department of Education to appoint a teacher-coordinator, preferably a Post Graduate Teacher (PGT), to facilitate student participation in the programme. The final round and prize distribution will be held on September 7 on World Equanimity Day at Satyug Darshan Vasundhara in Faridabad.

River of dreams: Delhi schools wade into Yamuna clean-up, campaign will run from July to March
New Delhi: In an initiative to involve young minds in environmental conservation, the directorate of education has launched a nearly year-long awareness campaign, Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan — A Clean Yamuna Awareness Campaign. It aims to sensitise and educate school students about the importance of cleaning the Yamuna and actively involve them in environmental conservation efforts. The campaign, which will run from July 2025 to March 2026, includes a series of interactive and creative school-based activities. DoE has also encouraged schools to collaborate with their respective National Service Scheme (NSS) units and engage with Delhi Jal Board and local education officials to organise talks, presentations and awareness sessions. Schools are expected to report their activities on a monthly basis. The campaign aims to educate and inspire students across Delhi schools about the pressing need to clean the Yamuna river and actively engage them in efforts to protect the environment. Proposed by Delhi education minister Ashish Sood and supported by the directorate of education, the campaign will unfold as a series of structured activities and events spread over several months. As per the circular issued, these activities will include essay writing competitions in July 2025 to express the significance of a clean Yamuna, followed by drawing and painting contests in Aug that will encourage students to creatively depict the river's plight and beauty. In Sept, schools will host speeches, debates and skits focusing on water pollution and conservation. The awareness drive will peak in Oct with 'Clean Yamuna' pledge drives and awareness walks, allowing students to step beyond classrooms and take a more visible role in advocating for the river's revival. Additionally, schools will be encouraged to organise cultural programmes related to the Yamuna during their annual functions, providing a platform to further reinforce the message of ecological responsibility through music, dance and drama. To ensure the smooth execution of the campaign, DoE has asked schools to collaborate with their local NSS units. Schools may also partner with Delhi Jal Board and other education department officials to host motivational talks, presentations and interactive sessions, further enriching the educational experience for students. Monthly reports of all conducted activities—along with photographs and short videos—are to be compiled and submitted by the schools' physical education teachers to the directorate. A structured reporting format has been provided, which will help track the participation of schools, the number of students involved, and the visual documentation of events. "With this initiative, Delhi govt not only seeks to instil environmental awareness among students but also empowers them to become active agents of change. Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan stands as a beacon of civic engagement, creativity and education, proving that the path to a cleaner future can begin in school corridors and lead all the way to the banks of a once-glorious river," said an official.

Yamuna cleanliness awareness campaign to be launched in Delhi schools
The Delhi government has decided to launch the 'Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan' across schools in the national capital with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta saying it was aimed at increasing sensitivity towards the need to revive the holy river. According to officials, the main objective of this campaign is to increase sensitivity among children about the importance of the Yamuna River and to connect them with the broader cleanliness movement. 'The Yamuna River cleaning is an issue which is very close to our hearts. Through this school, we aim to send a message to children that the Yamuna issue matters to us. With everyone's support, we must speed up the cleaning process of the river,' the chief minister said. Water Minister Parvesh Verma had written to Education Minister Ashish Sood requesting that the campaign be implemented in all government, government-aided and private schools across Delhi. 'The Yamuna is not just a river but the lifeline of Delhi. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's Swachhata Abhiyan (Cleanliness Mission), through 'Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan' we are connecting children with the cause of cleanliness and environmental conservation,' Verma said. 'If we educate our children today about the importance of rivers and the environment, they will grow into aware citizens tomorrow, playing a vital role in building a clean and green India. Delhi's future is incomplete without a clean Yamuna', Verma added. Under the 'Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan, essay writing competitions, drawing and painting competitions, awareness walks and cultural programmes will be organised, a statement said.
