Matildas star Katrina Gorry makes huge reveal about her upcoming wedding as she parties at hen's do
Katrina Gorry has finally revealed when she'll tie the knot with her fiancee Clara Markstedt almost two years after their heartwarming engagement announcement. The Matildas star announced she will marry her Swedish love on June 15, making the date public in an Instagram post that showed the couple celebrating their hen's party together on Sunday. Gorry captioned her post - which featured photos of her and Markstedt in colourful wigs and wearing matching 'Bride to Be' sashes - with the words, 'The perfect HUx. 20 days until I get to call you my wife.' 'Hux' refers to a combined hen's and buck's party. The 32-year-old West Ham star revealed she got engaged to her long-term partner just before the last Women's World Cup, sharing photos of Markstedt's romantic proposal at a stunning seaside location. 'The best love stories never end. YES,' the Matildas veteran posted on social media along with photos of her and Markstedt embracing and showing off their engagement rings. 'She said YES! How did I get so lucky?' wrote Markstedt, who is also a talented artist as well as a veteran of the high-quality Swedish league, the Damallsvenskan. Matildas stars were quick to congratulate the popular veteran, 30, over the brilliant news. 'I love this! I'm so happy for you both,' wrote goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, with Arsenal star Steph Catley saying: 'STOP, So, so, so happy for you guys!' Close mate and Matildas legend Michelle Heyman was also stoked with the news. 'WOW!! Congratulations beautiful! This is the best news ever! I can't wait to celebrate with you!' the A-League Women's star said. More good news followed for the couple in June last year, when Markstedt gave birth to their son Koby Peter David Gorry. The name includes a touching tribute to Markstedt's late father Peter, who passed away during last year's World Cup. 'Big sister is absolutely in love and our hearts are so full,' they wrote, referring to their daughter Harper. At the time, the midfielder was recovering from an ankle injury that required surgery last August and ruined her Women's Super League season. Gorry suffered another ankle injury in April, forcing her to withdraw from the Matildas' international camp. She was not named in the Aussie squad to take on Argentina on May 30 and June 2 after being given personal leave.

Still no Sam Kerr as Matildas name under-strength squad for Argentina friendlies
The long wait for Sam Kerr's return to competitive football shows no sign of ending soon with the Matildas skipper missing from Australia's squad for upcoming friendlies against Argentina. Kerr is into a 16th month of recuperation after undergoing surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament sustained in January 2024, and while she tentatively returned to the training field at her club Chelsea towards the end of the Women's Super League season, she is not yet deemed ready for a recall to the national set up. Kerr tagged along as a cheerleader last time the Matildas ran out for two friendlies against South Korea in April, but her ongoing absence in a playing capacity has raised questions over whether she will return at all before next year's Asian Cup in Australia. Games against Slovenia and Panama were locked in this week for July, and there is just one further international window to get Matildas game time under her belt before the tournament on home soil kicks off in March. Kerr, who announced the birth of her first child last week, is joined in the long-term injury list by Mary Fowler – another victim of an ACL injury – while experienced duo Ellie Carpenter and Katrina Gorry have been left out of this latest squad after being granted personal leave. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and midfielder Tameka Yallop will also miss the two-match series against world No 33 Argentina – to be played in Melbourne on 30 May and Canberra on 2 June – with respective lower leg and hamstring injuries. The absences pave the way for several fringe players and one new call-up to gain experience in an international camp. Uncapped keeper Morgan Aquino earns a recall to the squad following consistent performances in the USL Super League, while Isabel Gomez is rewarded for her scintillating A-League Women form for grand finalists Central Coast Mariners. Kahli Johnson, the 21-year-old former Western United and now Calgary Fire attacker, has been called up for the first time, while Amy Sayer is welcomed back into the fold after successfully rehabilitating from her own ACL injury. Goalkeeper Jada Whyman also returns after an extended injury layoff. The games against Argentina come off the back of two encouraging wins against Korea, which were viewed as something of a return to form for the team following a disastrous She Believes Cup campaign in the US. Sign up to Moving the Goalposts No topic is too small or too big for us to cover as we deliver a twice-weekly roundup of the wonderful world of women's football after newsletter promotion 'We were pleased with how the group responded during the Korea Republic series as it showed that we have solid foundations as we continue to build depth and work on strengthening areas of improvement,' interim coach Tom Sermanni said. 'This squad selection rewards players who have performed well, both here in Australia and overseas. It's important we continue to create a competitive environment while also giving opportunities to those who've earned their place.' 'Every window brings us closer to the Asian Cup, and each match is a chance to improve our identity, develop our playing style further, and build the cohesion we'll need to be successful next year.' Matildas squad Morgan Aquino, Tegan Micah, Jada Whyman; Steph Catley, Charlotte Grant, Winonah Heatley, Clare Hunt, Alanna Kennedy, Courtney Nevin, Natasha Prior, Jamilla Rankin; Kyra Cooney-Cross, Leah Davidson, Isabel Gomez, Amy Sayer, Emily van Egmond, Clare Wheeler; Caitlin Foord, Bryleeh Henry, Michelle Heyman, Kahli Johnson, Holly McNamara, Kaitlyn Torpey

Mackenzie Arnold: Matildas star leaves fans STUNNED as she exposes depressing news with confronting photo
Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold has confirmed she won't play in two upcoming home matches against Argentina due to a foot injury. Arnold, 31, posted photos of herself in the boot and crutches on her Snapchat stories before telling fans she won't feature in the fixtures to be played in Melbourne and Canberra on May 30 and June 2 respectively. Daily Mail Australia understands the shot-stopper injured her foot when playing for Portland Thorns FC in the US. The setback for Arnold follows Matildas teammate Mary Fowler recently rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) when turning out for Manchester City in the FA Cup. Fowler, 23, now faces at least nine months on the sidelines. It comes as respected physiotherapist Brien Seeney, who discusses various sporting injuries on his NRL Physio Instagram and X accounts, recently raised questions about another ailment Fowler was carrying before her disastrous setback. Daily Mail Australia understands the shot-stopper injured her foot when playing for Portland Thorns FC in the US 'Horrible to see an ACL rupture now confirmed for Mary Fowler - interesting to read that she had a significant playing & travel load leading up to the injury as well as dealing with a right hamstring issue,' he wrote on X. That was backed up by photos of Fowler training with the Matildas in Sydney ahead of their first friendly against South Korea on April 4, where she was seen with her right hamstring taped up. The muscle was also strapped when she blew out her ACL. And in January of 2024, skipper Sam Kerr also injured her ACL when on a training camp with Chelsea in Morocco - and is yet to play a competitive fixture since. In better news for the embattled Matildas, Joe Montemurro's appointment as their new coach is expected to be confirmed by the end of the month, with the Melbourne-born mentor set to cut ties with French club Lyon. Montemurro previously enjoyed successful spells in charge of Arsenal and Juventus – where he led them to national titles in England and Italy respectively. He also signed Matildas star Caitlin Foord while in charge of the Gunners. Foord's Arsenal teammate Steph Catley recently said the Matildas players felt 'in limbo' as they waited for Football Australia to fill the vacant position nine months after Tony Gustavsson's departure. The Matildas are currently ranked 16th in the world.

Dylan Buckley: Footy star who became a HUGE success in entertainment reveals amazing family news
Footy star turned podcast sensation Dylan Buckley has become a father for the second time - and it didn't take long for a number of AFL identities to pass on their best wishes. They included GWS Giants veteran Stephen Coniglio, Channel 7 AFL expert Abbey Holmes and former Carlton teammate Jack Silvagni. Plenty of footy fans also congratulated Buckley on social media, after he posted 'My girl, Annie' on Instagram. The images also featured Buckley's wife Justine, son Max and their newest addition. 'Omg I'm so thrilled for you both. What a gorgeous, happy, lucky name!' said one supporter. Matildas star Mackenzie Arnold responded with: 'Congrats! and a third weighed in with: 'Congratulations mate, perfect little family.' Buckley, 32, played for Carlton and GWS before the midfielder was de-listed by the Giants in 2019. He then turned his attention to podcasting - and it has proven to be an astute decision. Aside from his 76,000 Instagram followers, Buckley's podcast Dyl and Friends is one of Australia's top sports podcasts. In recent years, Buckley has expanded to introduce shows like Footy and Friends and 200plus. Buckley's father is three-time Carlton premiership player Jim Buckley, with Dylan drafted to the Blues under the father-son rule in 2011. Last year, Buckley confirmed how he delved into the world of podcasting. 'I started because I couldn't get a job in radio, and I thought I could use it on my resume once my AFL career ended,' he told The Age. In February, Buckley sat down for an extended chat with Aussie golf superstar Cameron Smith 'I went from a regular wage to nothing, and I thought (at the time) 'How can I afford to do this?' — all I knew was that I wanted to work it out.' The bold move has paid off - in 2023 alone, with the Dyl & Friends podcast totalling over 4.3 million downloads and 1.5 million listeners. Buckley's point of difference is that along with co-founder Adam Baldwin, he has built an independent sports network.

Sam Kerr shows off her newborn son Jagger in photo with a heartwarming detail
Sam Kerr and her fiancée Kristie Mewis have shared a new image of their son Jagger Mewis-Kerr with the world along with a little detail that shows they are adapting well to motherhood. Chelsea and Matildas star Kerr shared a sweet image holding their new arrival, revealing not just their baby boy - but also a comforting reminder of home. Behind the happy couple sat a box of Cadbury Favourites, a quiet but touching sign that amid sleepless nights and nappy changes, they're still finding moments to treat themselves. The caption revealing the safe arrival of Jagger on Friday simply read, 'Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr,' and the post was quickly flooded with love from friends, fans, and teammates. Matildas goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold wrote, 'The cutest family ever,' while Mary Fowler added, 'So beautiful.' Katrina Gorry, Courtney Nevin and Caitlin Foord also shared their well wishes. Kerr and fiancée Kristie Mewis welcomed baby Jagger to the world on Friday to a host of well wishes from fans and teammates 'Congrats you guys. Welcome to the fam Jagger,' Gorry wrote. The official Matildas account joined in, saying, 'Welcome to the Tillies fam, Jagger! Congratulations to mums Sam and Kristie.' International clubs like West Ham Women and Chelsea Women, where Mewis and Kerr play respectively, also offered congratulations. Teammate Aggie Beever-Jones wrote, 'Cutest ever,' while the Barclays Women's Super League added, 'Congratulations!' The announcement comes after the couple first revealed their pregnancy in November 2024. They shared a black-and-white collage showing Mewis' baby bump, confirming months of speculation. Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 34, met in 2019 and went public with their relationship in 2021 before announcing their engagement in November 2023. Their wedding is expected to take place later this year. The pair had been splitting their time between the UK and Australia as they prepared for parenthood. In December, they attended Emily van Egmond's wedding, where Mewis - several months pregnant - wore a flowing blue-and-white gown that drew plenty of admiration. Shortly after the wedding, Kerr received news her grandmother had been hit by a ute in Perth, prompting a quick return to Western Australia with Mewis by her side. Kerr also recently faced a high-profile legal battle in London as she was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment of a police officer following an incident in early 2023. The Matildas striker was accused of calling a policeman 'stupid and white' during an altercation at Twickenham Police Station. Football Australia later confirmed they would take no further action, allowing her to retain the national team captaincy. Her parents in Perth said they were 'happy the court case is all done and dusted,' and added that Sam 'felt supported throughout the trial'. Kerr later thanked Mewis for standing by her during the ordeal, calling her 'my biggest supporter'. Despite the incident, public support remained strong, although the couple did receive homophobic abuse online after announcing Jagger's birth. Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor labelled the comments 'unacceptable,' while team captain Millie Bright called for tougher action from social media platforms. Mewis, who plays for West Ham United and has represented the US 53 times, also expressed pride in their growing family. The US midfielder has had a globetrotting career, with stints in the NWSL, Germany, and Japan. Kerr remains sidelined with an ACL injury suffered in January 2024. Chelsea has said she is still 'a few weeks away' from returning, and it's unclear if she'll be ready in time for the Matildas' clash against Argentina on May 30.
