Empty Bowls fundraiser at Binghamton General tomorrow

BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – There was a fundraiser at UHS this afternoon, where people got a quality lunch and take home a handcrafted bowl, all for a good cause. This afternoon marked the 19th annual Empty Bowls lunch event. The public was invited to UHS Medical Center in Johnson City for a catered lunch of pasta, soups, burgers, desserts and more, to raise money for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Those who attended also got to select a handcrafted bowl of their choice, as a keepsake, and reminder of food insecurity in our community. The Corporate Partnerships Manager at the Food Bank, Maddy McClenahan, says if you missed out today, there will be another lunch event at Binghamton General, tomorrow from 11:30 to 1:30. 'It's a great opportunity to connect with people who care about food insecurity and food brings people together. So, it's just a great way to get together over some delicious food, meet new people, and do good,' says McClenahan. Tickets for tomorrow's event are $25 and a portion of the funds raised will support the UHS Foundation's STOP Hunger Fund and the Food Bank. Mirabito launches ‘Round Up' program to benefit Southern Tier Food Bank

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Shoppers at local Mirabito Convenience Stores can help feed the less fortunate this month. The gas station chain has launched a Round Up program to benefit the Food Bank of the Southern Tier throughout March. Customers at stores within the Food Bank's 6-county region will be asked to round up their in-store purchases with the money going to help feed the hungry. The Food Bank's Corporate Partnerships Manager Maddy McClenahan says the small individual donations can add up to thousands of dollars. 'Just being here this morning, I got to interact with a bunch of them and got to speak on the impact their donation has. It really is true that the smallest amount truly does make a significant difference,' McClenahan said. This Round Up campaign is one of several Mirabito schedules throughout the year at its 109 stores, each one benefiting a different regional charity. Marketing Director Marissa Sweeney says the company steps in at the end with a contribution of its own. 'At the end of this campaign, Mirabito Convenience Stores rounds up that round up as well, really making that significant impact. So, really it's a partnership between Mirabito Convenience Stores and our community partners. We're not just relying on our community members to round up their purchases, we're doing our part to round up as well,' Sweeney said. Mirabito is also contributing to the Food bank of Central New York and the Regional Food Bank to address hunger in the counties they serve as well. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
