Who was Vikram Sugumaran?
Vikram Sugumaran is a Tamil film director and screenwriter best known for his authentic portrayal of rural life and complex social themes. He made a strong debut with Madha Yaanai Koottam (2013), a film that earned acclaim for its raw, gripping portrayal of caste-based tensions in rural Tamil Nadu. Before turning director, he honed his craft under legendary filmmaker Balu Mahendra and also worked on Subramaniyapuram (2008), contributing as a dialogue writer. Vikram's work is marked by its raw realism, cultural depth, and commitment to telling rooted, socially relevant stories within the Tamil cinema landscape.
After a brief hiatus from filmmaking, he returned in 2023 with Ravana Kottam, starring Shanthanu, Anandhi, Prabhu, and Ilavarasu. Though the cast was promising, the film didn't perform well at the box office.
