Berhampur: A 30-year-old software engineer from silk city recently scaled the 6,476 m high
Mount Mera
in Nepal.
Madhusmita Patra
scaled the snow-clad peak of Mount Mera on April 29 around 9.45 am.
On April 19, she set out from Kathmandu and made her way through the rugged Himalayan terrain, trekking 5-7 hours daily and stopping at various camps set up on the way.
Braving the biting cold, falling oxygen levels and altitude fatigue, Madhusmita reached the base camp. She commenced the final summit at 2.30 am on April 29 under freezing conditions, said Nursingh Sahoo, her trainer.
Despite the harsh conditions, reduced pace and exhaustion, her determination remained unshaken, and she finally reached one of the world's difficult peaks, he said.
She is now taking rest at Amphu Laptsa in the post-summit period. Madhusmita dreams of scaling Mount Everest and some other towering summits across continents. Before scaling Mount Everest, she is training herself in climbing difficult summits, said Sahoo.
Madhusmita has scaled the 5,895 m high Mount
Kilimanjaro
in Tanzania, the highest peak in Africa, last year. Before she started her expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, she had completed a 28-day rigorous basic mountaineering course (BMC) at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling.
