Louisiana father charged with murder after leaving daughter, one, inside 105F car for NINE hours
A Louisiana father has been arrested for murder after he allegedly left his infant daughter inside a car for more than nine hours, with temperatures inside reaching 105F. Joseph Boatman, 32, was detained on Sunday after his 21-month-old girl was left buckled inside a car in the Madisonville area. Deputies with the St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office were called to a residence just before noon after a family member found the baby unresponsive inside the vehicle, police said. Authorities soon discovered that Boatman picked his daughter up from a family member's home earlier that morning after he 'consumed multiple alcoholic beverages'. He then strapped his child into a car seat around 2.30am and 'went back inside the residence and never returned to the vehicle,' police said. The temperature in Madisonville that day reached 95F, meaning it felt more like 105F inside the car. 'This is a devastating loss that no family ever wants to face,' Sheriff Randy Smith said. 'When a child is left in a vehicle, especially on a day when the heat index climbs over 100 degrees, the outcome can turn deadly in a matter of minutes. This case involved compromised judgment, and the result was heartbreaking.' Boatman is facing a second-degree murder charge and is currently being held on a $75,000 cash bond, according to his arrest report. This is not his first run-in with the law, as Boatman is also a registered sex offender. In June 2019, Boatman was nabbed by the FBI, along with more than 60 others as part of Operation Broken Heart - an initiative designed by Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force taskforce and Attorney General Jeff Landry's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation. Boatman was convicted for the online solicitation of a minor, according to records obtained by Boatman's daughter was the fifth child to die in a hot car in the U.S. this year, according to Kids And Car Safety. At least 1,130 children have died in hot vehicles in the country since 1990, and at least another 75,000 survived with injuries, the non-profit stated. Every year, an average of 38 children die in hot cars and about 88 per cent of them are three or younger, per the statistics. This comes after a one-year-old boy was found dead inside a hot pickup truck in southwest Albuquerque on May 25. Police said the 'very tragic incident' occurred while the child was supposed to be under the supervision of a male relative, who authorities say simply forgot he was there.

Police said the 'very tragic incident' occurred while the child was supposed to be under the supervision of a male relative, who authorities say simply forgot he was there. The child's parents dropped him off around 10.0am leaving him in the care of a young adult relative. But what should have been a routine day turned to horror when that relative left the child in the back seat of his vehicle, parked in the sun with the windows closed. It wasn't until almost six hours later at 5pm that someone realized the baby was missing. Family members contacted the caregiver to ask where the child was, prompting a frantic search - and a heartbreaking discovery. 'They realized the child wasn't inside the home,' Albuquerque Police Department Public Information Officer Gilbert Gallegos said at a press briefing. The child unfortunately died at the scene after family members and emergency personnel performed CPR to try to revive him. Although the official cause of death is pending an autopsy, police say all signs point to heatstroke. The National Weather Service estimates the interior of the parked vehicle could have reached more than 200F even though Albuquerque's high on that day was around 83F.

Louisiana father who left 1-year-old daughter in hot car for over 9 hours faces murder charge: police
A Louisiana father was charged with second-degree murder after allegedly leaving his 21-month-old daughter inside a hot car for more than nine hours. Joseph Boatman, 32, of Hammond, was arrested Sunday after the child died outside a home in Madisonville, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office. "Detectives with the STPSO Major Crimes Unit have learned that Boatman had strapped the toddler in her car seat inside the vehicle after picking her up from a family member's residence shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday," police said. "After strapping the toddler in her car seat, Boatman went back inside the residence and never returned to the vehicle. It was also learned that prior to Boatman arriving to pick up his daughter, he had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages," the sheriff's office added. Police say they responded to the home shortly before noon Sunday, "after a family member located the girl unresponsive inside the vehicle." Temperatures in the area around that time were about 90 degrees. "This is a devastating loss that no family ever wants to face," St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said in a statement. "When a child is left in a vehicle, especially on a day when the heat index climbs over 100 degrees, the outcome can turn deadly in a matter of minutes. This case involved compromised judgment, and the result was heartbreaking." The website No Heat Stroke, which tracks the deaths of children inside hot cars in the U.S., said it was the fifth instance this year, following cases in New Mexico, California, Maryland and New Jersey. "A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult's. When a child is left in a vehicle, that child's temperature can rise quickly – and the situation can quickly become dangerous," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says on its website. "In 2024, 39 children died of heatstroke in vehicles — up 35% from 2023." The NHTSA also says, "Never leave a child in a vehicle unattended for any length of time," and, "Rolling windows down or parking in the shade does little to change the interior temperature of the vehicle."

Madisonville's Zach Tow preps UK for Sweet 16 as a walk-on
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Former Madisonville basketball player Zach Tow will forever be known as a Kentucky Wildcat after he made the roster as a walk on. Tow joined the Wildcats in his junior year and had to prove himself every practice. After a teammate told Wildcats head coach Mark Pope that Tow deserved a jersey, he got one and was even able to wear it on the court during Kentucky's domination of LSU. Now UK heads to the Sweet 16 on Friday. Tow is excited for the opportunity to prepare his teammates. Oh it's awesome, I'm definitely excited,' said Tow. 'Definitely a dream come true to be back. We're all feeling so blessed, especially me. This is my first experience with it so I know I'm feeling amazing. I know the team is feeling amazing and we can't, you know, wait to start the game tomorrow. So I think the best thing I can do is just, you know, support the guys, do whatever they need me to do. Do the practice squad and things like that. But at the end of the day be a great teammate, help my teammates out and hope for the best.' Kentucky plays Tennessee on Friday night at 6:39 C.T.
