Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti passes away
Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills BRS legislator Maganti Gopinath, who had been hospitalized following a massive heart attack, passed away at 5.45 am on Sunday. The Telangana government performed the last rites of the legislator with state honours. Maganti Gopinath was admitted into AIG Hospitals on June 5 after a heart attack and was under observation of doctors for 48 hours. He was declared dead at 5.45 am by the doctors. He was said to be suffering also with kidney problems for the past few months. Maganti Gopinath was born to Krishnamurthy and Maha Nanda Kumari. He started his political career with Telugu Desam in 1983. From 1985 to 1992, he worked as Telugu Yuvatha State president. He had also served as the Director of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1987, 1988. He served as the chairman of Consumers Forum from 1988 to 1993. He was appointed as the Hyderabad District Telugu Desam president. Gopinath entered the Assembly in 2014, having contested on the ticket of Telugu Desam, which was then in alliance with the BJP. He joined the BRS (TRS then) in 2016 and won on the BRS ticket in the 2018 Assembly elections. He was appointed as member of the Public Estimates Committee (PEC) in the Assembly. He won the 2023 election by defeating cricketer-turned-politician Mohd Azharuddin. Maganti Gopinath was interested in the film industry and he produced a few films including Patabasti (1995), Ravanna (2000), Bhadradri Ramudu (2004), Naa Style Veru (2009). He is survived by wife Sunitha, son Vatsalyanath, daughters Akshara Nag and Dishira. BRS leaders mourned the death of their leader at a young age. BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao visited the residence of Gopinath and paid floral tributes. KCR consoled the bereaved wife and children of Gopinath. He gave them courage. He took his son Vatsalyanath close to him and consoled him. He assured them that the party would stand by them in difficult times. KCR got emotional on seeing the mortal remains of Gopinath, who was a gentleman. BRS party Working President KT Rama Rao, his wife Shailima, son Himanshu Rao, and his family members were standing by and consoling them. KTR said that the sudden death of BRS Hyderabad president Maganti Gopinath was a huge loss for the party. KTR rushed to the hospital in the morning along with his wife Shailima and their son Himanshu after knowing the death of Gopinath. KTR said that his 'brother', the gentle-natured Gopinath, had risen step by step in politics and was elected MLA three times in a row and gained recognition as a public leader. KTR said that his services to the people of the constituency would never be forgotten, and it was very painful to lose a good leader. Party senior leaders T Harish Rao, MPs KR Suresh Reddy, Damodar Rao, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLAs Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Devireddy Sudheer Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Kaleru Venkatesh, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MLCs Dasoju Sravan, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, former MP Jogina Palli Santosh Kumar and others paid tributes.

Jubilee Hills BRS MLA Maganti passes away at 62
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLA from Jubilee Hills, Maganti Gopinath (62), passed away at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad on Sunday morning. He had been undergoing treatment after suffering a massive heart attack on June 5. He is survived by his wife Sunitha, son Vatsalyanath, and daughters Akshata and Disira. He was cremated at the Jubilee Hills Mahaprasthanam on Sunday evening. Gopinath, who also served as president of the BRS Greater Hyderabad unit, was born in Hyderguda. He began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party in 1983. A prominent youth leader in his early years, he served as the president of the TDP's youth wing, Telugu Yuvatha, from 1985 to 1992, and also held the post of TDP Hyderabad district president. Gopinath entered the legislative assembly for the first time in 2014, winning on a TDP ticket from Jubilee Hills. He later joined the BRS and retained his seat in the 2018 and 2023 assembly elections. In the most recent election, he defeated former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin by a margin of 16,000 votes. In his administrative journey, Gopinath worked as a director of the then Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) from 1987 to 1989. He also served as a member of the Hyderabad district consumer forum. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy, BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao, working president KT Rama Rao, former minister T Harish Rao, and several other political leaders expressed condolences on Gopinath's demise. Union minister G Kishan Reddy, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, assembly speaker G Prasada Kumar, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and D Sridhar Babu, and several MLAs also paid their respects. With Gopinath's passing, Telangana is set to witness another by-election within the next six months. The last bypoll in the state was held in June 2023 for the Secunderabad Cantonment seat following the death of BRS MLA Lasya Nanditha. Congress candidate Sri Ganesh won that election.

He served as president of the TDP youth wing, Telugu Yuvatha, from 1985 to 1992 and also held the post of TDP Hyderabad district president. The three-time MLA was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad with a heart attack on Thursday (June 5, 2025) and was in the ICU. He has been ailing for some time with kidney-related issues. He was 63 and leaves behind his wife Sunitha and three children, Maganti Vatyalyanadh, Akshara Naga and Dishira. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Leader of the Opposition and BRS chief K. Political journey from 1983 Maganti Gopinath began his political journey in 1983 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), quickly rising through the ranks. He served as the Telugu Yuvata State president from 1985 to 1992, a role that put him at the forefront of youth politics. His early administrative experience included a stint as director of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1987 and 1988. He was the president of the Consumer Forum from 1988 to 1993 and held various responsibilities as the TDP Hyderabad district president. His electoral breakthrough came in 2014, when he contested the Telangana Assembly elections from Jubilee Hills on a TDP ticket. He won with a majority of 9,242 votes, defeating MIM's Naveen Yadav. He then joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), aligning with the State's ruling party. In the 2018 elections, Gopinath contested again from Jubilee Hills, this time representing TRS (now BRS), and secured a comfortable victory with a margin of 16,004 votes over Congress candidate P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy. He served as a member of the Public Estimates Committee (PEC) in the Legislative Assembly the same year. He was appointed Hyderabad district president of the BRS Party on January 26, 2022. In 2023, he was elected for the third time to the Assembly, defeating the Congress candidate Mohd Azharuddin. Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderguda, Hyderabad, to Krishnamurthy and Mahananda Kumari, Gopinath was active in public service for over four decades. He graduated with a B.A. from Osmania University in 1983. Beyond politics, Gopinath also dabbled in cinema, producing several Telugu films including Pathabasti (1995), Ravana (2000), Bhadradri Ramudu (2004) and Naa Stiley Veru (2009)
