Multiple people rescued after deadly Iranian strike in Beer Sheva, images show extensive damage

TEL AVIV — Multiple people were rescued after a residential building in southern Israel took a 'direct hit' from an Iranian missile strike on Tuesday morning, according to Israel's emergency services. At least three people were killed in the strike on the city of Beer Sheva and six others were being treated with light to moderate injuries, according to Israel's emergency services Magen David Alom (MDA). The Iranian missile strike on the residential building strike caused a massive explosion and clouds of thick gray smoke, according to social media video verified by CNN. Images of the aftermath show concrete debris and crushed, burned out vehicles lining the street in front of the residential building. The façade of the building was destroyed, exposing damaged homes inside, according to the photos geolocated by CNN. First responders can be seen walking through the extensive damage. Firefighters rescued three civilians alive from the rubble, MDA said, as search and rescue operations continue. Walls of nearby buildings also appear severely damaged, according to video verified by CNN that was shared on social media and provided by Israeli authorities. 'We saw thick smoke rising from the impact site, and as we got closer, we saw extensive destruction to several buildings,' Shimirit Sela, an MDA emergency worker, told CNN. Israeli flags can also be seen hanging out of windows in the neighborhood, as the lights of emergency vehicles flash below, the videos and photos show. US President Donald Trump claimed late Monday night that Israel and Iran reached out to him almost simultaneously about peace between the two regions, as the Israeli military said it had identified missiles launched toward the nation from Iran. CNN has reported that Trump and a group of his top diplomatic and security officials worked furiously behind-the-scenes to try to broker a peace deal to end the conflict between Iran and Israel in the hours after Iran launched a missile attack on a US base in Qatar. Moments before Trump's post, the Israeli military said it had identified missiles launched toward Israel from Iran and said its defensive systems were activated. Iranian state media announced Tuesday local time that a ceasefire has been 'imposed on the enemy' after the country's military response to 'US aggression.' — CNN

Sirens in Jerusalem as Israel says intercepted Yemen missile

by Naharnet Newsdesk 7 hours The Israeli army said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Sunday, shortly after air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem, according to AFP journalists. "Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted," the army said in a statement. Israel's rescue service, the Magen David Alom, said there were no reports of injuries related to the launch. The Israeli military reported shooting down two missiles launched from Yemen on Thursday, with the MDA reporting at least one person injured while seeking shelter from the first. Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have repeatedly fired missiles and drones at Israel since the Gaza war broke out in October 2023 following Hamas' attack on Israel. The rebels, who say they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians, paused their attacks during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March, but resumed them after Israel restarted its campaign in coastal territory. The Houthis recently warned they would impose a "naval blockade" on the Israeli port of Haifa after Israel's military intensified its offensive in Gaza.

Eight people, including pregnant woman, killed in latest Israeli strikes across Gaza

RESCUERS IN GAZA said eight people were killed and several more wounded in Israeli air strikes across the Palestinian territory this morning. Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal said five people were killed in a strike on a home in Jabalia, in the north. Two more people, including a pregnant woman, were killed in an attack targeting tents sheltering displaced people around Nuseirat in central Gaza, he added. A strike in the main southern city of Khan Yunis also killed one person, Bassal said. The Israeli military has stepped up its Gaza operations in recent days in what it has described as a renewed push to destroy Hamas. Yesterday afternoon, the military said it had carried out strikes on more than 100 targets throughout Gaza over the past day. Gaza's health ministry said yesterday that at least 3,747 people had been killed in the territory since a ceasefire collapsed on 18 March, taking the war's overall toll to 53,901, mostly civilians. Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel that triggered the war resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people. Advertisement Militants also took 251 hostages, 57 of whom remain in Gaza including 34 the Israeli military says are dead. Meanwhile, the Israeli army said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Sunday, shortly after air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem.
