Walmart employee rescues mom after man with knife hops in her car

An Alpharetta mother is praising a Walmart employee for protecting her against a knife-wielding man who entered her car as her 1-year-old son was in the backseat. The encounter happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart on Market Place Boulevard in Cumming. Faith Haleh Rojas was in her Toyota Camry at curbside pickup when she noticed a man walking toward her car. At the same time, a Walmart employee was approaching her back door to place her merchandise on the seat. The intruder reached for her passenger-side door. 'As soon as I saw his hand reach for my car door, I immediately hit the lock button,' she said. The man still managed to get inside. I felt like my body, like my soul, left my body.' Her baby was still in the backseat. 'And I just screamed, 'He's got a knife! He's got a knife! Please help me save my baby!' And I was just focused on trying to get into my back seat to get my child.' She said that's when the Walmart employee pushed the man out of the car, then the intruder walked away. 'So he left, and I just went to my child and got on my knees and was crying and thanking God for protecting us,' she said. Haleh Rojas is also grateful for the Walmart employee who intervened. 'I want to thank him for being brave and courageous for helping a mother during a very scary and terrifying situation,' she said. Former Magic City dancer sues over sexual harassment, wage violations

The Brief An ex-dancer at one of Atlanta's most popular strip clubs has filed a lawsuit against the business in federal court. The woman claims Magic City owes her thousands of dollars in unpaid wages and allowed sexual harassment to go unchecked. An attorney for the club owner denies the allegations. ATLANTA - A former Magic City dancer is suing the notorious strip club for sexual harassment and violation of federal wage laws. Attorneys representing Courtney Hale, also known by her stage name Gorgeous Doll, filed the federal discrimination lawsuit on March 27. What we know According to Hale's complaint, from September 2022 to September 2023, she was regularly required to pay a portion of her earnings in kickbacks to the club's DJ, security, and a third-party promoter known by the name "Baller." The lawsuit stated those fees ranged from $20 to as much as $1,000. Hale's lawyers argue it's a clear violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which shields employees from having to share tips with employers. The former dancer-turned-influencer also claims she was sexually harassed by a female manager and that no action was taken when she reported it. The complaint states she was fired in an act of retaliation after speaking out about the harassment and unpaid tips on social media. What they're saying We spoke exclusively with Hale, who now lives in Miami, over Zoom on Wednesday. She says she was wrongfully terminated for raising her concerns and refusing to give up a portion of her tips. "There aren't a lot of girls who speak out because they're scared … I'm speaking up for myself because I know that something was done and it was illegal," she told Fox 5. "Baller wanted $500 per girl … he was leaving with $8,000 off of us," she recalled of one particular night. "Instead of them being accountable for their actions, they would rather turn against the person accusing." The other side Attorney Gary Freed, who represents Magic City and its owner Michael Barney Sr., denied Hale's claims, saying she was fired for another reason that was "private information." "We don't believe any of these allegations have any merit … this person has been on social media disparaging, denigrating and defaming Magic City. We sent two cease-and-desist letters," he said in a phone call Wednesday. Freed confirmed there was an investigation into Hale's sexual harassment claim but declined to discuss the outcome when asked for more detail. "Magic City prides itself on treating its employees with dignity and respect … we do not believe this ever happened," he added. What's next Hale is seeking all wages she says she was forced to pay the club, along with an unspecified amount in damages. She also hopes to encourage other women to speak up about abusive practices in the nightlife industry. There was a mediation hearing in the case last week that was unsuccessful. Both sides say they are looking forward to taking their case to court.

Atlanta dancer sues Magic City over termination and alleged harassment, wage theft

A former employee of Atlanta club Magic City filed a federal lawsuit against the company and owner Michael Barney, Sr., claiming she was sexually harassed and forced to participate in an illegal 'kickback' involving her wages and tips. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Courtney Hale filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court's Atlanta Division. She said she was fired after requesting she be 'properly paid minimum wage and her earned tips' in accordance with federal law. She claimed her pay was 'confiscated' in the amounts of 'tens of thousands of dollars from her' by a manager at the club, ranging from $500 to $1,500 at a time, two to three times per week. Additionally, Hale alleged she was subject to a sexually hostile work environment and was retaliated against for rejecting that harassment and reporting it. The lawsuit claims one of the club managers would regularly harass and assault Hale, by forcibly grabbing her buttocks and breasts and making vulgar statements on a recurring and regular basis, including by text message. She said this created a hostile work environment. Magic City, which is owned and operated by Paradise Entertainment at 241 Forsyth St. SW in Atlanta, employed Hale as a dancer from September 2022 to Sept. 25, 2023, according to her lawsuit. Responding to a request for comment from Channel 2 Action News, an attorney representing Magic City said that the company denies all allegations raised by Hale, adding: 'Ms. Hale worked as an employee of Magic City from September 2022 to September 2023. Magic City does not believe there was any sexual harassment of Ms. Hale while she worked at the Club and Ms. Hale did not report any harassment to management during this time frame. She signed employment agreements which Magic City contends she has breached concerning defamation, disparagement, and publication of confidential information, all on social media. She was sent two cease and desist letters to no avail. She also signed an arbitration agreement which Magic City will seek to enforce. Magic City believes all wages paid to Ms. Hale were appropriate, legal, and substantial. Magic City intends to defend the lawsuit and arbitration vigorously.'
