Petition in HC for April 30 Sanatani meet under cloud

Kolkata: A petition by Ramesh Chandra Bera seeking Calcutta High Court 's permission to hold a Maha Sanatani Dharma Sammelan at Contai on April 30 — the same day the CM is scheduled to inaugurate the Jagannath temple in Digha — came under scrutiny on Tuesday, as Bera appeared before the court to submit through his counsel that he did not file the writ petition. There was chaos in the courtroom when counsel Nilendu Bhattacharya submitted that he had documents to substantiate that Bera did not file the writ petition. Bhattacharya claimed that none of the signatures were his. Justice Tirthankar Ghosh found an apparent mismatch between the application made by the petitioner to the SP and SDPO and the writ petition that came under scrutiny on Tuesday, raising questions over the its maintainability. Justice Ghosh directed senior counsel Billwadal Bhattacharya, who had argued on points of law a day earlier, to make an application before the court, supported by documents from the advocate on record on the issues canvassed by or on behalf of Bera. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Deals Undo "You have other avenues to explore," Justice Ghosh said to Billwadal Bhattacharya, and adjourned the matter till Wednesday. Justice Ghosh also recalled a similar case before Justice Md Nizamuddin in which signatures didn't match. Counsel for the DM and the SP, Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, submitted that this was a serious matter and the persons involved were liable for impersonation if documents and authorised letters were not produced in HC.

Suvendu in HC as cops refuse Contai event on April 30

1 2 3 Kolkata: State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari moved Calcutta High Court on Monday after police rejected his application for holding a Maha Sanatani Dharma Sammelan at Contai on April 30, the day CM Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to inaugurate the Jagannath Temple in Digha. Police had turned down Adhikari's application on the ground that the proposed sammelan venue at Contai was adjacent to NH-116B, the route several dignitaries would be taking that day for the temple inauguration programme. Cops also cited that there was a scheduled Sitala puja at Nachinda temple in the vicinity on that day. Counsel for the petitioner Billwadal Bhattacharya submitted that police had no jurisdiction in the matter. "In this case, the proposed venue is a private place," he said. AG Kishore Datta would make his submission on Tuesday and senior counsel Kalyan Bandyopadhyay would represent the DM and the SP.
