NU appoints 4 new deans on temporary basis

Nagpur: The Nagpur University has appointed four new deans, including two women, on temporary basis after the tenure of full-time incumbents ended on Saturday. Among the new temporary deans, Shyamrao Koreti was retained to helm the faculty of humanities, a position he held for the last five years on full-time basis. Koreti is a professor in NU's postgraduate history department. Professor of postgraduate education department, Rajashri Vaishnaw, made a comeback as dean of interdisciplinary studies faculty — a charge she held under then vice-chancellor SP Kane until 2020. Vaishnaw replaces engineering college principal Prashant Kadu. Medha Kanetkar, principal of Shree Niketan Arts and Commerce College, has been delegated the charge of commerce and management faculty. Postgraduate physics department professor Umesh Palikundwar will be in-charge of science and technology faculty. These teachers replaced Sanjay Kavishwar and Prashant Maheswari, respectively. In its order on Monday, NU administration stated that the vice-chancellor has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of dean of the faculty to these teachers under powers as per the provisions of Section 16 of Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo These teachers would hold the charge from June 16, 2025, till further orders, the order stated. "Accordingly, the concerned teachers will perform the additional and daily duties of the dean's post while performing their other duties," the order said. For this, an additional allowance of Rs5,000 per month is being sanctioned to them as per the approval given by the Management Council on June 15. The full-time deans were appointed by then vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari, who passed away in September last year. The deans were allowed to continue till the end of the academic year in April, but their terms were extended till June 15, keeping NU's workload in mind. The process of appointing a new vice-chancellor has also picked up pace, with the university planning to soon publish a recruitment advertisement. Once a new VC is appointed, the NU will also get full-time deans and a pro vice-chancellor.
