Solapur collector forms panel on fire safety

Kolhapur: Following the fire at a textile factory that killed eight people, including the 87-year-old factory owner and his 18-month-old grandson, Solapur collector Kumar Ashirwad has established a committee to recommend fire prevention measures. On Tuesday, Ashirwad convened a meeting with the officials of the municipal corporation, Mahavitaran representatives, industry department personnel, and powerloom association members to address disaster prevention strategies. The MIDC has been instructed to create a subcommittee, comprising departmental heads and Solapur Powerloom Association representatives, to develop a comprehensive safety action plan for submission by next month. Additionally, Ashirwad proposed installing water feeder points in MIDC areas to expedite fire tender refilling, addressing concerns raised by relatives about delayed response times due to slow water replenishment. Mahavitaran's electrical inspectors have been directed to examine the power supply distribution system, while a third-party agency will conduct fire safety audits in MIDC areas. Municipal commissioner Sachin Ombase presented details about construction, roads, and power distribution systems in the MIDC area related to the towel factory fire, emphasising that residential accommodations should be prohibited in MIDC factories. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Credit Card Picks GoSearches | Search Ads Get Info Undo According to sub-divisional officer Sadashiv Padadune, the Central Textile factory fire likely originated from a short circuit. Despite a prompt fire brigade response, inadequate road access impeded their approach, allowing the fire to escalate. The situation was eventually managed by demolishing the building's wall using a JCB, enabling rescue operations and fire control. Powerloom owners' representatives attributed frequent MIDC area fires to inconsistent voltage supply from the power distribution company. They maintained that regular and appropriate voltage supply to MIDC industries could prevent short-circuit-related fire incidents.
