Feb. 13—A past participant in Mahomet's Polar Plunge, Caleb Wright will contribute in another way Saturday.
Co-owner of Domino's in Mahomet, the 30-year-old has agreed to donate 60 pizzas — about $1,000 worth — to feed a hungry, shivering group at Lake of the Woods. "Not a problem at all," said Wright, who in January answered the call when the event's usual food sponsor had to back out. "We love being part of the community."
Domino's opened its Mahomet location in 2001. Wright, a 2013 Mahomet-Seymour High grad who plunged to benefit Special Olympics Illinois as a teenager, has been with the company for 10 years. He started as a delivery driver before quickly moving up the ranks. His wife, Shania, handles marketing at their thriving shop on North Lombard Street.
He said he'll bring in extra staff — as well as family like his mother-in-law — to pull off Saturday's special order.
"They really stepped up under unforeseen circumstances," Vanessa Duncan of Special Olympics Illinois said. "We appreciate all the support."
