Priceville police arrest two on MDMA charges
May 7—Priceville police arrested two women on drug-related charges following a vehicle stop just before midnight Sunday. According to an affidavit filed in Morgan County District Court, Priceville police conducted a traffic stop on Point Mallard Parkway when an officer observed that the registered owner had active warrants and a suspended driver's license. The driver was the vehicle's owner, Nikita Latoya Mahone, 38, of Birmingham. Mahone voluntarily produced a bag of approximately 31.07 grams of MDMA, or ecstasy, according to the affidavit. A vehicle search revealed a loaded firearm and an additional amount of drugs, including methamphetamine, according to police. Mahone had more than the 28-gram statutory threshold for trafficking, so she was charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, police said, in addition to unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. "She was also charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm due to a prior robbery out of Pelham Police Department," the Priceville Police Department said. Mahone remained in the Morgan County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of a $377,000 bond, according to jail records. The court set her preliminary hearing for May 14. Erica Raeshawn Harrell, 37, of Graysville, rode in the passenger seat. During the narcotics search, Harrell told officers that her purse contained additional MDMA, according to the affidavit. The purse held approximately 1.72 grams, police said. Harrell was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and remained in Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond Tuesday, according to jail records. Her attorney filed a motion to reduce the bond because "she does not appear to be a flight risk," which is set for a hearing on Tuesday. — or 256-340-2437
