Darsheel Safary admits to FOMO over 'Sitaare Zameen Par', Says: 'Main Bas Ek Zariya Tha'

Aamir Khan
's new film, Sitaare Zameen Par. In a recent interview, the actor admitted he felt a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) when Aamir didn't reach out to him for the project.
'It Would Have Been Cool to Be a Part of It'
In a conversation with News18, Darsheel reflected on his initial disappointment, while also demonstrating maturity and acceptance.
'Having possessiveness is a natural emotion,' he said. 'There might have been days where I thought, 'It'd have been cool if I was a part of Sitaare Zameen Par.' But then, if you look at the bigger picture, you are delivering the best product in the most natural, organic way. If it doesn't fit, it just doesn't.'
'Main Bas Ek Zariya Tha'
Darsheel made it clear that Taare Zameen Par was never about him as an individual, but rather about the message it conveyed:
'I have always known that Taare Zameen Par is not about me… Main bas ek zariya tha (I was just a medium). All our characters in that film were mediums. It was never mine alone.'
He further added,
'I'm passionate about cinema. I've studied films, I've given my soul to this industry. But a film is not just about one person—it's an emotion, a story that we all experience together.

'That's what Aamir sir must have thought while making Sitaare Zameen Par—that the decision should serve the film and the audience. I'm okay with not being part of it. I just feel lucky to be a part of that legacy.'
What is Sitaare Zameen Par About?
A spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par follows the story of Gulshan, a former basketball star turned coach, played by Aamir Khan. As part of his court-ordered community service following a DUI offence, he's assigned to train a group of neurodivergent children. What begins as a reluctant responsibility transforms into a deeply moving journey for both the coach and his team.
