Brentwood, Tennessee-based Tractor Supply Co. has plans for adding another location in the Wichita region.
The rural lifestyle retailer (Nasdaq: TSCO) wants to build a 22,000 square-foot improvement store with a 20,000-square-foot outdoor sales area in Derby at Meadowlark Boulevard and Rock Road.
Tractor Supply is currently working through the permitting process for the store and expects to start construction as early as this summer, a spokesperson for the company said.
The new store could open its doors to the public in the first quarter of 2026, according to Trey Hart, director of development for Nashville-based Mainland Cos., which is working with Tractor Supply on the project.
The company is known for selling various agricultural and livestock supplies including tools, work wear and boots, and typically opens stores in rural areas or outlying communities in a metro.
Tractor Supply will employ about 25 full-time positions at its new location with additional roles available for part-time workers and students, Hart said.
It will be developed on a long-vacant site at a retail corridor along Rock Road just across the street from the Derby Market Place.
The city of Derby's planning commission is scheduled to vote on rezoning the 4.26-acre site to general business district for the Tractor Supply project at its May 1 meeting.
The current property owner is McBride Farm LC, while the contract purchaser is Mainland Retail Acquisitions LLC, an entity tied to Mainland Cos.
Derby's board of zoning appeals is also scheduled to vote on increasing the allowed size of the outdoor sales area at its May 1 meeting.
Tennessee-based Oxford Architecture designed the new store, according to site plans submitted to the city.
This will add to the other Tractor Supply store located in west Wichita and another location farther north in Newton.
The company has 44 locations in Kansas out of its total 2,311 stores in 49 states in the U.S. It employs more than 52,000 people across its locations.
The company also owns 10 distribution centers across multiple states with another under construction in Idaho.
Tractor Supply unveiled plans to open a total of 90 new stores this year as part of its capital plans.
The retailer saw $3.47 billion in net sales in the first quarter of 2025, a 2.1% increase from the same quarter last year that was driven by new store openings.
