Zero tolerance safety rules on BSL premises
Bokaro: The
Bokaro Steel Plant
(BSL), a unit of
Steel Authority of India Limited
(SAIL), has implemented "
zero tolerance safety rules
" on the plant premises, effective from May 1, 2025, observed as 'Majdoor Diwas'. The move aims to eliminate unsafe practices and reinforce a
safety-first culture
among both employees and contractors.
BSL chief of communications Manikant Dhan said the use of mobile phones while driving, crossing roads, climbing stairs or working on the shop floor has been strictly prohibited. Violations such as not wearing seat belts while driving four-wheelers, riding two-wheelers without helmets or fastening chin straps, triple riding, overspeeding, rash driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants are also banned.
Speed limits have been capped at 30 km/h for light motor vehicles and 16 km/h for heavy vehicles (excluding emergency services). "A six-level disciplinary structure has been outlined for BSL employees. First-time offenders will have their names published on BSL intranet and notice boards. Repeat violations will attract counselling, advisory letters (also sent to families), and monetary fines — ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 1,000, depending on employee level. Persistent violations may result in further disciplinary action," Dhan said.
