Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Best View Yet Of New Design Shown In Latest Leak
When Apple releases its next iPhones this fall, it'll be clear whether reports of a thicker-than-ever iPhone Pro Max are true. How thick is too thick? A new video showing a dummy may give us clues. It comes from prolific leaker Majin Bu, with the caption 'iPhone 17 Pro is beautiful,' followed by a 33-second video. To be clear, this is not the real thing, though it's a well-built mock-up. Assuming it's following the well-leaked details and dimensions (and assuming they are accurate in the first place), what does it tell us? This mock-up shows the rear camera panel in a shade that matches the rear of the iPhone, unlike most earlier leaks which showed the camera panel in black. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in April that this wouldn't be the case. Here it looks like the camera panel, which stretches across the width of the phone, is made of glass, with the iPhone's color showing through. So, how thick is it? There have been several reports that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be thicker than ever, potentially to provide a great benefit: increased battery life. In the latest video, the dummy phone is shown from more or less every angle, including side-on. The iPhone 16 Pro Max measures 8.25mm from front to back, while reports have suggested this fall's replacement will be 8.725mm thick. That's a difference of 0.475mm, which isn't exactly gargantuan. As a result, it doesn't look much thicker, if at all, in the video. This may calm those who worry a thicker phone, especially of this screen size, could be too much in the hand. Of course, Apple will have thought of this and curved the edges, for instance, to mitigate this. Though since many people put this expensive piece of technology in a case, there's the thickness of the case to be factored in here, too. By the way, it looks like this dummy is a non-U.S. iPhone, as the SIM tray is there, where the mmWave antenna lozenge sits in American iPhones.

This suggests the Air model will come with a bigger unit than the supposed 2,800mAh battery. We really hope the company also brings faster charging speeds for the new model. But along with being a sleek device, Bu claims Apple will make sure the iPhone 17 Air will be durable thanks to its use of the 7000 series aluminium alloy for the frame which will give it a lighter touch compared to the iPhone 16 Pro titanium frame. Bu was also on hand to share the supposed bend test video of the iPhone 17 Air model and the test video suggests the iPhone 17 Air has been built using solid materials which means the model is able to stay in shape despite the person putting strong effort to try and bend the device. Apple's WWDC 2025, set for 9 June, is just a few days away. At the event, we can expect several big announcements from Apple, including revamps for various software platforms such as iOS, and more. Recently, reports have suggested that Apple could be planning a major overhaul of both its naming conventions and how its operating systems are structured. Here are the big things we expect. Firstly, Apple's software could be renamed. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple's software versions might be renamed based on the year. So, this year, we could expect iOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, and iPadOS 26, instead of iOS 19 and others. This will be a significant change for users and might even confuse some first-time Apple buyers. iOS and other platforms are expected to undergo a total revamp. Reports suggest that Apple could revamp its software versions, especially in terms of aesthetics. iOS 19 is expected to offer many translucent and transparent elements, similar to Apple's visionOS, which powers Apple Vision Pro, their latest mixed-reality headset. In the last few months, numerous leaks and rumours have hinted that the tech giant will replace the iPhone 17 Plus with a new iPhone 17 Air, which may be the slimmest iPhone ever. And while nothing is certain at the moment, from battery to design, here's everything we know so far about the iPhone 17 Air. The iPhone 17 Air will look different from other models in the series, and thanks to tipsters sharing images of the iPhone 17 Air's dummies, we have an idea of what the slimmest iPhone may look like. As you can see in the X post below, the iPhone 17 Air ditches the vertical camera setup in favour of a huge horizontal, elliptical camera island. To give you a quick recap, the slimmest Apple product to date is the 2024 iPad Pro, which is just 5.1mm thick. The weight reduction may be attributed to Apple going with a lighter 7000 series aluminium frame that will weigh around 25 grams to 30 grams. This will make it lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which sports a titanium frame. Other components that make up for the weight include the 35-gram OLED screen, a single 48MP camera that weighs 5 to 7 grams. The A19 and logic board, which is said to have a combined weight of 10 grams to 12 grams, a 35-gram battery and a 15-gram glass back. According to the tipster, the iPhone 17 Air will weigh 146 grams, but past reports have claimed that the device will have a weight of 145 grams or 150 grams. This means that the upcoming phone will weigh somewhere between 145 grams to 150 grams. The tipster goes on to claim that the iPhone 17 Air will have a Silicon Carbon battery to make it slimmer, and while the exact battery capacity is unclear, several rumours have hinted that it will be under 3,000mAh. Apple is also said to be offering a battery case for the phone, making the device less appealing. Earlier this year, a report suggested that Apple wanted the iPhone 17 Air to be the first portless iPhone, but it looks like, because of regulatory constraints (mostly from the European Union), the tech giant may be forced to include a USB-C port. Also, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have the same buttons as the iPhone 16, meaning we will see a Camera Capture button and Action button alongside the standard power and volume buttons. On the display front, the iPhone 17 Air is said to pack a 6.6-inch to 6.7-inch ProMotion OLED screen. Taking a look at the iPhone 17 Air mockups, renders, and dummy units, it is highly likely that the upcoming phone will have a huge elliptical camera bar on the back that houses a single 48MP lens. As for the hardware, Apple is working on the A19 and the A19 Pro chips, but the iPhone 17 Air is said to feature the non-Pro variant. The device is also expected to come with 12GB of RAM. Apple is expected to increase the price of the iPhone 17 series, but it looks like the iPhone 17 Air may cost $899, which is the current price of the iPhone 16 Plus. This means that the slimmest iPhone will be more expensive than the vanilla iPhone 17 but cheaper than the Pro models.
