17-year-old arrested, charged with manslaughter in connection with 16-year-old's stabbing death

Montreal police have arrested a 17-year-old and charged him with manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in April.
The 16-year-old, Makhai Ruddock, was stabbed on Barclay Street in the Côte-Des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough on April 15.
A suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Ruddock was conscious when police arrived on the scene, but died later in hospital.
Police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for the suspect, a 17-year-old boy.
Montreal police said in a media release on Monday that they tracked him down and arrested him in Niagara Falls, Ont., on June 5. They transported the boy to Montreal, where he is facing a manslaughter charge.

Makhai Bennett-Ruddock was fatally stabbed in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges-NDG borough in April. His loved ones are urging parents and members of the community to watch out for warning signs that young people may need help.
He appeared in youth court on June 6 to answer the charge. He cannot be identified because he is a minor.
Ruddock's death marked Montreal's eighth homicide of 2025.
