Is Jets' 'YAC King' Set For Breakout Season?
Is Jets' 'YAC King' Set For Breakout Season? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Jets receiver Malachi Corley, also known as the "YAC King" due to his ability to generate yards after the catch, had a disappointing rookie season. Advertisement Just three receptions for 16 yards in a Jets offense that struggled to get off the ground under Aaron Rodgers meant Corley was an afterthought. Granted, it's only one season, so we're not dismissing him, and he will get the chance to impress Aaron Glenn and Tanner Engstrand this offseason. With a receiver room considered one of the worst in football, despite having Garrett Wilson, there is a scenario where Malachi can produce if given the chance. And CBS Sports thinks he could make a surprising impact in 2025. "When New York selected Corley in the third round in 2024 out of Western Kentucky, there was plenty of buzz," CBS Sports writes. "However, that buzz never materialized into an on-field impact in what was a forgettable rookie season, which was headlined by mental mistakes like letting go of the ball before crossing the end zone against Houston. Advertisement "That said, Corley does have an opportunity for redemption and to get his career off the ground, especially with a new coaching staff in town. The Jets also don't have the deepest receiver room behind Garrett Wilson, so there is an opportunity to climb the depth chart if he can endear himself to Aaron Glenn and Co." Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images So what kind of impact can we expect from Corley? Well, we aren't expecting 800 yards and a handful of touchdowns, but more so, when the opportunities are presented to him, he takes them. He played just 91 combined snaps across offense and special teams last season, so seeing that number increase will help, but again, he must demonstrate that he is worthy of more reps. Advertisement That will come this offseason at OTAs, mini-camp, and then training camp. It appears there is a chance for Malachi to rise up the depth chart in 2025 under Engstrand; he just has to take advantage of the opportunity when it comes his way.
