#SHOWBIZ: MIFFest returns for the 8th time
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is gearing up for its 8th edition, at MYTown here from July 19 to 27.
The highly anticipated Golden Global Awards will take place on July 26 at Zepp KL.
This year's festival, themed "Infinity", promises a vibrant mix of international masterpieces and local cinematic gems.
It aims to celebrate the boundless possibilities of storytelling through film, as reported today.
MIFFest will open with Ninavau, a poignant Malaysian short film by Bebbra Mailin.
It tells the story of a native Kadazan woman returning from Peninsular Malaysia to her devout Catholic family in Sabah, bringing with her a profound change of heart.
Closing the festival is Transamazonia, a powerful international co-production involving France, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
This film explores themes of resilience, personal transformation, and urgent environmental concerns.
Audiences will also be treated to open-air cinema screenings of beloved local classics, including The Journey, Munafik 2, Polis Evo 1, Hantu Kak Limah, and Desolasi.
A special highlight this year is a tribute to Indian cinema.
This includes a heartfelt homage to Raj Kapoor, celebrated as the "Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema," and a spotlight on Indian women filmmakers.
Featured titles in this segment include Second Chance, Village Rockstars 2, Boong, and Victoria.
Another key feature is "Harbour of Stories: Hong Kong On Screen".
This specially curated segment delves into the evolving identity of modern Hong Kong, showcasing films such as Last Song for You, Montages of a Modern Motherhood, The Way We Talk, and Valley of the Shadow of Death.
In total, the festival will screen 62 films from 48 countries, presented in over 43 languages, offering audiences a truly rich and diverse cinematic journey.
"These titles are incredibly exciting — some are even world premieres," said Joanne Goh, founder of MIFFest.
