Perfect start for Tang Jie at Taiwan Open with triple win
KUALA LUMPUR: Three matches in the space of just six hours?
No problem for Chen Tang Jie, who enjoyed a flawless outing at the Taiwan Open on Tuesday by sealing a third win, this time in the mixed doubles with new partner Chan Wen Tse.
Tang Jie-Wen Tse, teaming up for the first time in competition, got off to a winning start by defeating Hong Kong's Lui Chun Wai-Fu Chi Yan 21-17, 21-17 in just 31 minutes at the Taipei Arena.
The victory underlined Tang Jie's intent, even though the partnership with Wen Tse is set to be short-lived as he will reunite with regular partner Toh Ee Wei later this month for the Singapore Open.
Still, it was a commendable display from Tang Jie, who showed remarkable fitness and focus to come through three matches in a day - regardless of the level of opposition - especially considering he had just returned from Xiamen, China, where he helped Malaysia reach the Sudirman Cup quarter-finals last week, playing three matches there as well.
Earlier in the day, Tang Jie partnered Wong Vin Sean to clear two qualifying hurdles, including an impressive win over the Malaysian-South Korean pair Goh V Shem-Choi Sol Gyu, about two hours before his mixed doubles appearance.
Tang Jie will return to court on Wednesday alongside Vin Sean for a men's doubles clash against fourth seeds Lee Fang Chih-Lee Fang Jen of Taiwan.
He will then enjoy a brief respite before resuming his mixed doubles campaign with Wen Tse in the last 16 on Thursday, where they will face either Hong Kong's Chan Yin Chak-Ng Tsz Yau or Indonesia's Marwan Faza-Aisyah Pranata.
