Ramanan dismisses claims Indian support for PKR is waning
IPOH: Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has dismissed claims that support from the Indian community for PKR is weakening. The PKR deputy information chief, who is also the Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, stressed that support from the community remains strong, reinforced by a series of significant government initiatives aimed at benefiting the Indian population. "If you ask me, the support of the Indian community for PKR is currently strong. "I don't understand where this notion of declining support is coming from. "If we look at the programmes implemented for the Indian community, they are among the largest in our country's history," he told reporters after meeting 22 out of 24 Perak PKR branches here today. Ramanan pointed out that the government has allocated substantial funds for programmes that directly benefit the Indian community. He highlighted key initiatives, including a RM100 million for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra), RM100 million for the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (Spumi) under Tekun Nasional and RM100 million for the Bank Rakyat Indian Entrepreneur Financing-i (Brief-i). "These are just some of the major programmes," said Ramanan who is tasked with overseeing Indian community affairs. Despite these significant investments, Ramanan expressed confusion over recent surveys questioning the level of support for the party among the Indian community. "So I don't understand where this notion is coming from. I understand there are many surveys, lots of data, and proposals arising from the work being done on the ground."
