KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, today presented certificates to 320 graduates of the 2024 Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) examination.
The number accounts for 30.24 per cent of students who passed the exam, out of 1,058 candidates who sat for it last year.
"The number of passing students declined by 16.09 per cent compared to 2023," said Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board chairman Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
Meanwhile, 4.16 per cent of CLP candidates passed conditionally, while 65.6 per cent failed.
The top scorer this year was Jason Lee Poh Hong – the only upper second class achiever – who won the best graduate award and was also the best scorer for the Professional Practice subject.
Meanwhile, Deepashini Kanagarajah was named the best graduate in the subjects of Evidence and Criminal Procedure.
Five candidates achieved second class (lower), while the remaining candidates obtained third class.
This brings the total number of CLP holders since the exam was introduced in 1984 to 15,355.
The ceremony, held at the World Trade Centre marked the 28th convocation for the CLP held by the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board.
